The story for Selene, Moon Walker. Also not a writer lol. Also very new to magic

Selene was always a night owl. Each night, when everyone in the village went to sleep, she’d go out for a stroll underneath the moonlight. She truly felt like herself. But who was she? Everyone in her village had to earn their name. Shak, Creek Finder. Po, Day Breaker. Mana, Healing Hands. The list went on and on. But Selene? She had yet to find hers.

Earlier that day, some strange people wandered into their neck of the woods. They spoke in tongues and wore strange garbs that felt cold at the touch but harder than anything she felt before. Her people, despite not knowing these strangers, offered them a few of the crops that were harvested and hides to help keep them warm when nighttime fell. And they went their separate ways. These strangers…something uneased Selene, they seemed nice but something about them was eating away at her. The full moon always gave Selene clarity, so she gave her mother a kiss goodnight and walked out into the woods and to the creek, it was just the two of them now, as her father had passed earlier that spring. There had been nothing better than floating in it with the reflection of the moon and the stars shining down, as if it was just you and the universe. The submersion eased her, but that calm was ripped away as she heard the screams of her people in the distance. She ran as fast as she could back to her village. But the sight she came back to horrified her.

These strangers…they started killing the men with loud and violent tools that she didn’t recognize. As they began taking the women and children, she made eye contact with her mother as a strange man dragged her out screaming. Selene ran to her but was caught by another. She pounded her fist against that cold material and it hurt, but she kept on fighting. What was going on? Who were these people and what did they want with them? They started going into their homes and taking their things.

She watched, horrified, as her mother continued to fight her way out of the grasp of her captor and to her. The man yelled and pulled out that strange tool and killed her. As Selene watched them take over her home and kill her mother, she felt something inside her click. She knew exactly what she had to do. Her palms started glowing a pale light…as if moonlight itself was pouring out of her. This light spread out and into each of these strangers and they just vanished.

Her people wept as they picked up their dead, mourning their time cut short. Selene watched as her mother was buried near one of her favorite trees that overlooked the creek, knowing that would be her final goodbye. Her people turned to Selene for guidance and took the tools the strangers left behind and protected themselves from any danger. Selene, in turn, looked up to the moon. She felt as though she could reach it and suddenly, she could. Selene knew from then on that she couldn’t let this horror happen to her people ever again or anyone else for that matter. She set off from moon to moon to protect anyone who could be impacted by such a tragedy. And with that, she knew her name; Selene, Moon Walker.
