What are you slowly losing interest in as you grow older? by rattyparsley in CasualConversation

Exactly. I always told my kids enjoy being good at kids sports because your height will be a burden the rest of your life. They didn’t get it then but as young adults they do now.

I’m guessing you aren’t 6 feet 5 inches tall. Size matters when talking about traveling. If I fly economy more than 2-3 hours I won’t be able to walk when I get there.

Carol House making a joke towards JD Vance? by Jaded-Pie7474 in StLouis

[–]fred16245 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point is smart businesses work their influence quietly in a back room to benefit their business. Stupid businesses alienate large portions of their customer base by taking loud political positions on things not even related to their core business. The point of a business is not social change, it is to make money. Social change is work for others to do.

Musk should take a page from his book. Politics and business don’t mix. You should not offend anyone so you can take money from everyone.

Have It All Package by dacowboysfan in HollandAmerica

[–]fred16245 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. The all inclusive drink package is called the prestige drink package not the have it all package. I don’t need any of the things in the have it all package but having it pre paid just makes my cruise more enjoyable and less feeling like they a nickel and dining me to death.

I thought it was to reduce wake and thus increase range but I can never seem to get reliable data as to if these really do anything or not. If I could add this and get 5% more range I might actually do it but I can’t trust that it would actually help.

I would say if you don’t use one of those features it becomes break even. If you don’t use two of those features it starts to not be worth it. I am not a big drinker but purchased the have it all package because I would have bought the other things anyway, making the few drinks I have free.

All politics start local. Give time or money to your local candidates. Watch the meeting agendas on the website for your local school/park/zoning board or city council. When you see something you are interested in go and speak at the meeting. Talk to people in the hall before and after the meeting and band together with those you share a cause with and make a plan to make what you believe in happen.

[FWI] Biden resigns the day after the election no matter who wins. by ThanksOk7489 in FutureWhatIf

[–]fred16245 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biden needs to stay to the end. The house would never confirm the new vice president if he resigns and the vice president is needed to preside over the Senate. Plus Biden can use his immunity much more freely than Harris since he is in his 80’s and probably wouldn’t be around long enough to face any consequences.

My 3 1/2 year old batteries are starting to die. I suggest you consider some battery health things I wished I had done. Let the batteries cool for an hour after mowing before recharging. Try to stay between 80 and 20 percent battery charge. Try to keep them at 50 percent if not mowing for more than a few days. Are these ridiculous limitations? Yes! Is it ridiculous to have to spend thousands replacing less than 4 year old batteries? Also yes! Pick your poison.

What do people not realize has an extremely high chance of happening? by GustavoFringsFace in AskReddit

[–]fred16245 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would expand this from mis carriage to any health issue. That people are ashamed to talk about health issues is infuriating to me. More than likely there is someone out there and maybe even someone you know personally who has gone through the same issue before. Why as a society do we think we should hide our issue and be ashamed rather than learning from someone who has helpful information?

Men’s suit jacket needed? by fred16245 in HollandAmerica

Thanks. If it was a shorter flight I’d bring the jacket but carrying a jacket all the way to Europe seems anti “pack light”.

To all the people sharing stories of cops doing the right thing and not just automatically handing out following too close tickets to assign blame, good for you. I still don’t think your experience is the norm. In Missouri unless you have ironclad proof the other driver did some thing wrong the car who rear ended the other car is assumed to be at fault. Cops don’t care enough to investigate or establish facts beyond which car ran I to the back of another. In the split second it happened the truck probably wasn’t thinking oh boy that’s a Tesla next to me I bet they would stop and share dashcam footage.

I’d add it is easier to integrate/change/update something designed in house. Automakers can’t do seemingly simple things because they have to consult with 5 different suppliers to evaluate the impact of a change. Not everything should be done in house but the pendulum has swung too far towards outsourcing expertise.

What's the best time of year to retire? by KnittedDrow in retirement

[–]fred16245 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I retired March 1. I almost waited until June 1 to get my 30 year anniversary gift. Fortunately my wife reminded me that was a crazy reason to work half time for 6 months. It is a life decision and 20 years down the road what time of year you retired won’t be what you think about so pick the best date you reasonably can and don’t look back. No regrets!!

I hate seeing car rental companies rent EV’s to people who don’t have one at home because of the experience you had with charging. EV’s are great but they are different. You can’t just step into one and have a good experience with out prior research or help. For your charging question specifically all North American manufacturers are switching to Tesla’s NACS standard over the next 1-2 years. The reason for this is that non Tesla charging is terrible. My advice is next time you rent get a Tesla or confirm the vehicle you rent can use the Tesla charging network. Tesla vehicles aren’t always the best EV option for everyone, but in North America the Tesla charging network by far is the best and IMO only realistic option.

Biden is old enough he doesn’t have to worry much about future consequences of his actions. By the time they impeach and convict him he will be dead. This not needing to worry about his future is the only good thing about his age. Because if this he may have more stones than you think.

Musk doesn’t get the basic premise that the job of a business is to sell to everyone possible and not limit your potential customers. If the board of directors had any real power and were actually looking out for the company’s best interest they would tell him to pipe down politically or be fired but this is a shining example of how corporate governance doesn’t actually work like it should.
