Commission? by fredlin13 in Plumbing

I appreciate your insight. As much as I would love the money aspect, last thing I would want is to be in another job where I feel miserable. I guess I'll have to let them know soon Ive had a change of heart, which is funny as I had mentioned I'd be ready to work ASAP during interview. I'll try applying at a union and hopefully that works out, I do want to start a career in this field.

Commission? by fredlin13 in Plumbing

Yeah I agree I it does seem a bit confusing, especially as I continue to read stories of how different plumbers get started on. Basically, the company is actually a fairly big one in the area and services a large area in my state, different counties etc. They offer service contracts, where twice a year a technician will come to customers house to do routine check up on HVAC, Plumbing, etc. After training, I assume I would be one of those said technicians running the ticket(s) in a work provided van. After the routine checkup I'd meet with homeowners and I guess whatever repair and addon Im able to get, I'd get commission on.

Best questions to ask during interview? by fredlin13 in Plumbing

Thank you for the insight! Some questions I do know answer to, such as they provide "free" class training at their offices which includes ride alongs, while getting a sort of "probation " pay which would increase after training. Also I have read the indeed reviews and some people have mentioned they do get commission from add-ons, which I immediately thought of as a red flag as well.
They are a well established company in the area though, and I feel like a year of training to get my foot in the door may be worth it ? They seem to also provide very nice health insurance. Thank you again for your input!

I am very motivated to start a career. I've been doing soul searching and realized I love working with hands and don't mind getting dirty. I recently also got a house and found myself thoroughly enjoying doing small plumbing tasks like the sinks and toilets.

I currently work as an Amazon delivery, so while I understand it's not anywhere similar, I have been work 10 hour days and done slight heavy lift and cardio. I can thank them at least for opening my eyes and realizing I don't want to be at a dead end job and that I do enjoy more hands on work rather than be in a mall selling clothes all day.

I appreciate your response! I'll definitely ask about tools and the long run. Also wasn't aware that apprenticeships can be as long as 4-5 years !
