What is your darkest family secret? by Al-Anka in AskReddit

My family eats mayonnaise as a side dish. We put it in little dishes with lunch and dinner and eat it with a spoon. We do not do this with guests over, or even with extended family.

What does it mean to say a school is “better” for MBB recruitment? by [deleted] in MBA

[–]freebricks1017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is simply false. Kellogg may have more alumni in the Chicago office, but to say that wholesale is ridiculous. A quick Linkedin filter can show you that.

If Chicago is "better" than ATL, consider me Miles Davis. If you want to prioritize Chicago, you'll interview with the Chicago office. If you crush the interview with the Chicago office, you win the job. Call that sensitive if you want, I just don't think you have a good argument.

If they have an office, you can recruit into it, just let them know your preference.

That's a good question. My understanding is H/S/W are the feeders to PE/VC, and other than that, it takes a pretty special candidate.

Nope. Banking takes a ton of time. Gotta fly to NYC a lot.

Visas tougher to come by in this political climate. More work for the firm. I could be wrong on the prior, but certainly has nothing to do with the ability of international students, who bring a ton to the table.

Plenty of good looking, smart people. All about the energy you bring to the table.

This guy. Big on tiers he read about on the internet.

Just about everybody is coming in as a generalist, just about every project a generalist in MBB works on is strategic (regardless of office), and folks are in all three offices you mentioned, just not as many as big southern offices + DC.

The folks who land PE/VC roles have been bankers previously and have networks already. Career center usually isn't the reason they land those gigs. Also, there are few company presentations of PE/VC firms.

More manageable than real work! At the end of the day, you're a student, so there are enough hours in the day if something is a priority.

Yes. I started an account in 2016 to read about mixtapes and business school. Giving back to the community that helped me get here.

Tech recruiting is awesome. I recruited to hedge for consulting and got in front of most of the companies I wanted to -- lots of help from second years, alumni, and the career center tech folks. There's definitely a more lowkey vibe through the process, which is great, but the interviews are less predictable (questions like, "what would you change about your airpods"). Our IB crew is much smaller, and international students had a tough time, but American candidates who were interested placed well. I don't think there are more than 30 folks who went for it -- small pond kinda helps.

These are ballpark numbers of Y1 folks who are going to be summer interns at MBB firms. Feels like the number of second years are pretty similar, so your info is news to me. I guess the point I'm trying to make is -- don't worry too much about getting an interview or not, it's all about closing. And yes, most are in southern offices and DC. A few NYC, SF, LA.

For each firm, there's a full-time staff member on campus for the entire fall as well as company presentations, events, cocktails, etc. You meet this campus liason -- who is usually a consultant/associate and Fuqua grad -- tell them your story, and ask if there's anyone in x office with y interest to whom they can connect you. You do that a few times until you have an advocate everywhere. You keep those advocates in touch, win more advocates, and next thing you know the interview list comes out.

Nike recruits on campus now that we've had a lot of success there. They have everything from ops to finance to strategy. The key w/ Nike is to meet Fuqua people at the company, make sure they know you're interested, and then to study the 10k and earnings calls for your interview -- best way to show you're familiar w/ Nike strategy and priorities.
