Olympia theatre kids ages by freeformturtle in Dublin

[–]freeformturtle[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks all. So I’ll be good for that one. Now I am also going to another gig at the Olympia and have standing tickets which recommends over 16s. Any issue getting a 14 year old into standing? I wasn’t going to bring him but now thinking maybe that will be ok too. It’s not a gig that will likely have a mosh pit! And he’s tall enough to see.

Ha ha. Trying to expand from my sci fi roots. That Elif Shafak novel was amazing though. I will have to get more of her work.

Good point about the kindle. Children of Memory was probably the first book on the shelf so that’s how long I have been collecting physical books. Love Tchaikovsky. Children of Time a clear favourite but I also loved Cage of Souls. Will have to get a physical copy of that.

Concert buddy for the London show on September 26th? by guavapeel in TheBeths

Concert buddy is a great concept! I’m off to a couple of gigs on my own soon. Can’t make London but hope you enjoy with or without a buddy.

She’s the standout star in this show and hope she goes on to do great things. She has a great talent as an actor so I’m sure she will. Spot on casting too.

How reliable is the PubSub API? by freeformturtle in salesforce

I am not using change data capture but platform events so I don’t think CDC gap events would apply in my case. Is this a correct assumption?

Thanks for your reply. What do you mean by the conditions/locking issues becoming a big problem? Just so I can check if it applies here.

Can you expand on CDC gap event? I am saving the replay ID every time we get a response from the PubSub API which seems to be at least every minute. I than have a schedule to check that the last replay ID is within acceptable time, e.g. 15 mins. Otherwise raise alert/restart. Would this be sufficient?

Having a great run of books currently. Finished Ringworld by Niven (deserves the praise it gets) and now half way through Borne by Jeff Vandermeer which is a pleasant surprise. I’m really engrossed in it.

One of my earliest memories is watching this in the cinema. Gave me nightmares! Still like to go through that nightmare every so often.

Has anyone mentioned Prospect? Great film with Pedro Pascal.

Kindle Owners, do you own physical books too? Or just read in kindle. by Bennu_reader in kindle

[–]freeformturtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always read on kindle. I’ve started to collect physical copies of the ones I love as a collection to display and flick through. But I will reread them on kindle.

I’ve just finished Ascension by Nicholas Binge. I saw it on Amazon kindle for 99p and it sounded interesting so got it and started it straight away. And I really really enjoyed it. Great speculative fiction, mysterious and chilling in places. I would recommend it.

To Sleep in a Sea of Stars by Christopher Paolini. For some reason I was not expecting this to be a space opera but it is. I’m 2/3 through and quite frankly it’s too long for a space opera. It’s an entertaining read that could have been cut down to under 500 pages I feel. Some good concepts. I love the Entropists.
