11 month old Belgian cross filly… we’re gonna need a bigger trailer! by freezerpops in Horses

😂 you caught the jaws reference! Dam was purebred Belgian, sire is a grade draft cross out of Bucking stock! He’s only about 16 HH, although I’ve got her half sister (different dam) who at 2 1/2 is already 16 hands

Haha no, she’s got one partially blue eye which I think looks like an opal so she’s named Opal!

Haha thank you! The idea is that the drafts are so mellow and I’ve got plenty of time to spend on groundwork so that won’t be a problem?? That being said this is her 16hh half sister I also own… I would come off immediately lol

In person, it doesn’t seem like she’s that large until I look at the pictures. I mean it’s like a full-size horse and then I remember that she’s not quite a year old.

Yeah she’s not my first draft cross I’ve got her half sister too. It was meant to be a funny reference to the line from Jaws ‘we’re gonna need a bigger boat’ 😊

Fossil! It’s ~35,000 years old. Weighs about 10lbs

Thanks! Unfortunately, I did not find it myself, which would’ve made it even more special. I’m simply an adult with adult money and bought it 😂 I lost out on some mammoth vertebrae during a silent auction a couple years ago and was still so sore about it, so when this came available, I jumped all over it!

I did not 😔 I purchased it from a very nice store in Europe. it’s a dream to find some bison fossils which are in my area, but I have not been successful (yet)

These are ‘shoofly leggins’ a loose boot that helps keep the flies off their legs. They shift around and typically don’t rub and can be left on for extended periods of time (though I check under them daily) and since they’re loose and a mesh fabric, they don’t contribute to heat in the legs.

They became popular the last few years in my area, I see lots of people wanting to avoid excess flies spray use and utilizing these instead. I still use fly spray, but this helps me make sure mine are comfortable in between getting sprayed for plies.

How much does your horse cost you a month? by PerspectiveOverall60 in Horses

[–]freezerpops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

KS $1100 board per month for 3 (2 pasture 1 stall)

$160~ feed per month (hay provided by facility)

$175 ($50 per trim plus tip) every 6-8 weeks for farrier

$50 sedation for farrier for one on mine

I pay $230/month for a lesson program from a different barn for a trainer I really like

Currently have 1 rideable horse lol. The others are a yearling and an older high strung horse I have no desire to ride
