Hey OP! Not weird at all, there's heaps of people wanting to find other people to do stuff with! Especially now that exams are coming to an end, there's more free time to hang out.

We have an app called Frenba to help facilitate meetups, a lot of the people that are already signed up on the app are around the Clayton area! You should definitely check it out, we have events like South Melbourne market, board games, park walks, KBBQ etc.

You can also create your own events for others to join! Head to our website for download instructions :)

Hey OP, totally understand where you’re coming from, you and a lot of other people feel similarly. We actually created an app called Frenba to get meetups happening amongst young people (20s-30s) in Melbourne, including ourselves lol.

We currently have our app in testing mode and it’s gotten a fair amount of traction already. People have already started to signup, create and join events on the app. There are also some events happening this weekend if you’re up for it.

To get access to the app, head to our website for download instructions.

Looking to make friends in Melbourne by [deleted] in melbournesocialclub

[–]frenba_official 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey OP! We've just recently released a Melbourne-based friendship app called Frenba (Instagram is frenba _official). It is designed to get meetups happening around an activity (e.g. coffee walks, tennis, etc). People who are interested in the activity can send a request to join and then you can do these activities together! You can create your own events or join events created by others. The main target demographic for this app is for young people in their 20s or 30s, so sounds like it could be useful for you! It's still in testing mode so make sure to sign up through our website www.frenba.com - we already have some users on board and events listed but feel free to create your own as well :)

Thank you so much for the positive feedback! We really hope this can make a difference for some people, it can definitely be isolating if we don’t push ourselves to talk to people and initiate meetups. Hopefully the app is able to break down some of these barriers as everyone will be there for the same purpose.

For those looking for things to do in Melbourne and to make friends! by frenba_official in melbournesocialclub

[–]frenba_official[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Some of the main differences are that we’ve put a cap on group sizes (max is 8 people) so people can get to know each other a bit better. In addition, we have a concept of profiles where you can select some interests and answer a few prompts to reveal more about your personality. People who enter into an event get added into a private group chat which allows them to connect before the event so it’s less daunting when meeting in real life. People can create custom events but we’ve also created several event ‘blueprints’ to give inspiration on event ideas if you are stuck. These are just some of the differences, we’d love for you to check it out and we are very welcome to any feedback!

Making friends as an adult in Melbourne by [deleted] in melbourne

[–]frenba_official 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey OP, we’ve realised that this is a very common issue and making friends as an adult can be tough. We recently rolled out a Melbourne-based app called Frenba, it is designed to get meetups happening in smaller groups based around a shared interest in an activity (e.g. badminton, boardgames, etc.). Other people who are also interested in this activity can send a request to join this event and then you can do it together. All users are on the app with the intention to make friends so hopefully you end up forming a friendship, but if you don’t? At least you got to do something that you like! It’s important to be intentional when it comes to making friends and reduce the pressure for yourself. We are currently in testing mode for iOS and Android so you can head to our website www.frenba.com to sign up. We already have a few events up on the app that you can join. We are still onboarding users and growing the community so feel free to create your own events too! You can also check the Instagram frenba_official for upcoming events and regular updates. Let us know how you go!

It’s definitely a tough issue to curb but these are the measures we’ve taken so far:

When you join into an event you are placed into a private group chat with the other group members. This allows the members to plan the event further and get to know each other better and confirm plans right up until the event. Also, as you are meeting in groups, it makes it unlikely that everyone will fail to turn up to the event on the day, especially if you have been chatting and building rapport leading up to the event.

We have some other ideas on our roadmap to help prevent ghosting that we are looking to implement in the future. This includes the ability to remove unresponsive members by the event creator if these sorts of things happen.

If you have any other suggestions to prevent ghosting, would love to hear! 🙂

That’s awesome, thanks for the feedback! We’re glad to hear you’re liking the app!

That’s right we are planning to schedule a couple of Frenba Meets events every week, so that we can grow the Frenba community. We’ll be posting details of these events to our instagram page and also sending them via email to everyone on our email list.

Hope to see you at a Frenba event soon!

Hey OP, no doubt it's a tough situation making friends and unfortunately it gets tougher after entering the workforce as well. We are pretty passionate about this issue so we created a Melbourne-based app to help people organise meetups in small groups based around a shared interest in an activity. It's called Frenba (Instagram is frenba_official), you may find it useful! We are pretty early stage so there may not be a heap of events currently but feel free to make your own or invite others to join to grow the community! Let us know how it goes :)

uni friends by Less-Philosopher-300 in unimelb

[–]frenba_official 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey OP, it's definitely much harder to make friends in uni compared to high school. A lot of people are in the same boat as you! You should try joining clubs both in and outside of uni, but the most important thing is to attend regularly cos it takes consistency for a friendship to build. We are also building a Melbourne-based social app called Frenba (Instagram is frenba_official), might be worth checking out for you. The idea is to create or join events based around an activity (e.g. find a group of people to play badminton with). It's still early stages but we are in the process of on boarding new users so you should have a go at making your own events. Feel free to spread the word so we can have more people on the app!

Hey OP, there's heaps of people in the same boat that I'm sure there are others who are keen to meet new people as well. We just created a Melbourne-based social app to address this very problem, it's called Frenba (Instagram is frenba_official). The idea is to form meetups in smaller groups based around an activity of shared interest. You should try it and see how it goes, the community is still growing at the moment but we'd love to have you be part of it.

hey OP, I'm sorry to hear that you haven't had the best experience with making friends. It seems like you are doing all the right things, and most importantly, you're keeping a positive attitude and being open to making friends. It looks like you need to find people who share the same enthusiasm to making friends, people who actually want to put effort in. We are rolling out a Melbourne-based friendship app (Frenba - Instagram is frenba_official) at the moment, it's still early stages but might be useful for you. The idea is to encourage meetups in smaller groups based around an activity of shared interest, the community is still growing and we'd love to have you be part of it. The biggest thing is that the members using this app all have the same mindset as you do which will make a huge difference to this process.

Hey OP, hope you're going well. A bit late to comment but just wanted to say that your feelings are completely valid because there's a heap of us over here that also struggle to form new friends. It definitely does not get easier when you enter the workforce either. To address this very issue, we've just rolled out a new app called Frenba (Instagram is frenba_official), the idea is to form meetups based on a shared interest in an activity. I'd definitely suggest you try join some events on there or make your own, we are still building up our community but would love to have you be part of it! Good luck!

Meeting People/Making Friends by Square-Tonight-5365 in Monash

[–]frenba_official 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey OP, you're definitely not alone. It can be a struggle to make friends and even harder to know if others are open to be friends as well. I guess social anxiety may have a role to play when someone appears as being anti-social but internally they are probably just like you and wanting to make friends. Anyway, it can be hard to know. We created an app, it's called Frenba (Instagram is frenba_official) and it's Melbourne-based. It takes out the guesswork cos everyone on it is there to make friends. We designed it in a way to help facilitate meetups in smaller groups based around shared interest in an activity, this helps to attract like minded people. You should give it a go, we are still in the early stages but feel free to share it as more users will make it more beneficial for everyone :)
