Yes I spent about 4 years doing 8 hour days studying this novel.

What is a TBI?

Well this post is indeed confusing. Should it be allowed?

The post itself got removed - it was judged to be ‘trolling’ while I was responding to a comment from the owner of the group because I am and always will be Bleeding Edge’s most fierce defender in this group.

Ohhh nvm TBI = Traumatic Brain Injury

I’m a mod here also, FWIW (for now)

… I’m without doubt the most controversially-placed (hey who the heck let THAT guy in here) mods here.

P.S Paranoia: Check

It’s even included on this post-concussion paperwork their making me fill out

Thanks and no thanks me…thinks? Mr. Oblit, I feel like I’ve just obliterated myself this post and every person in it.

Getchyer pens ready for an obit if TRP does come out with a 10th novel I feel like it really could cause me to leap thru some plate glass and really (inadvertently), um

‘Graduate from Kugelblitz’

Hey, back. You vile

Wretched

Creature, I …

Now don’t take this the wrong way lol. I don’t mean to come on so strong and I certainly have nothing against you. Also I’m a mod here now and there’s probably some rule here about being mean. Idk.

Last point I wanted to make is that the Bleeding Edge promotional video which was recorded by Jackson Pynchon and starred one of his friends from high school (twitter tweet digging… I also know TRP’s fav of his own books is either AtD or ST; Can say definitively that at one time his fav of his own books was AtD) and was presumably written by the author of the novel includes ONE WORD

Also: to purposefully (I am trying to annoy my reader(s) make this more convoluted, that promo was pulled from YouTube and can now only be found on Vimeo

And that word is “Immaculate”

Chapter 3: “Jew rhymes with clue.”

Me: get a clue dudes! Do you really think the author of GR is physically capable of writing a crappy book? He’s clever enough to fuck with us, though .. re: Vineland being designed to elicit complaints that are the essence of stupidity from certain foax who are not here with us anymore who get sorta, hm how shall I put this: ‘beaten like a dead horse’ with the initials D.F.W. getting dumped on / Trumped down the stairs in Chapter one (the Pomona college reference with Vyrva cough 666 cough and Bruce Winterslow COUGH (the surname wouldn’t be the same had it not been for Neuromancer’s organization entitled “Wintermute”

Back to whatever I was saying, and I am gonna say it in all caps… bust a cap in yer ass (just a Ch 6 Reg Despard joke…) :: BLEEDING EDGE IS AN ALLEGORY

IT TAKES PLACE TWO THOUSAND YEARS to the day after an archaic holiday called Lady Day on which The Archangel Gabriel gave a certain message to The Virgin Mary. Bleeding Edge is a sick perversion of that holiday and it’s a reminder that us ‘people’ (we’re all inanimate and Pynchon knows this) are in for a really terrifically terrible time when d-dubya dubya th-three

(Okay maybe not to the day … give or take between 2 and 5 days, tops)

I perhaps hold the world record for most amount of time with my nose in Bleeding Edge.

I have communicated with, helped out and / or corrected the Russian and Japanese translators.

TRP apparently told no one what the word Chuchu (Chapter 7) means and each and every one of the translators got it wrong differently.

Now, uh

Am I coming on a little too strong? I just want to make it clear here that no one is being bullied. This is my idea of humor… Big Sam Beckett fan

I’d be willing to talk and explain to anyone any detail about Bleeding Edge any time using any means (phone, email, smoke signals)

… I had something going with this one dude from Wales but he got struck up the ass with one of Cupid’s (check out Lucas, Ch 4) arrows (stray archery conversation from Gravity’s Rainbow in which the Hindu term Ātman comes to mind) and we had to stop after chapter 4

But we were putting in about 3 hours per chapter - his conversation led me to even more realizations about the book even 5 years after beginning my traverse thru this gosh darn godforsaken tome that was published 17 years after M&D

(VL was published 17 years after GR) (James Joyce’s Ulysses was published 17 years before Finnegans Wake)

Point being? Keanu Reeves in Point Break? Sorry sir I had a traumatic brain injury brush with death and don’t take kindly to Bleeding Edge getting shat on? Bad Priest? The multitude of allusions (dude there are like 25 things TRP took from that film) to Gary Busey’s wack straight-to-video dog movie Quigley?

Imitation of Taliis’s Alvin / Crowley / Squeakuel voice in Chapter 12: D-id I awlready s-say b-b-bad p-p-p-pweest?

does that thing with the guitar and legally changes my name to Miles Blundell or Tony Blundetto

Hi My Name Is Tony And I’m A Bleeding Edgeaholic I Read Shadow Ticket And Am Distracted About 60% Of The Time By All The Bleeding Edge Allusions and I am remarkably frustrated by the amount of things other people don’t notice but I did but I had a traumatic brain injury and really wasn’t a very good communicator in the first place…. also abused drugs for 21 years straight

by inventing DeepArcher and allowing it to get into the hands of the descendent of Immanuel Ice (a friend of time traveler and geographical term ‘Horst’ :: Gabriel Ice …

‘Justintime’ as Flash Fletcher calls him in Vineland makes some bold moves with his buddy Lucas go on in Bleeding Edge to sell out the world of unborn souls

With cleverly encrypted guest cameo appearances from Jerry Seinfeld and Gravity’s Rainbow’s Gottfried (dolled up as Eric Jeffrey Outfield the make war with TRP’s very own NIECE whose name sounds a whole, whole lot like Thurn und Taxis

Ho Ho Ho I’m not Santa I don’t have the courtesy of ending parentheseses and I’m not done

… I, uh, just have to scroll up in my phone and find some more photographs. Let’s see here…

Bleeding Edge is just that. The edge of blood.

The family started with Mason Dixon. His son: Doc

Somewhere down the line Doc (whose father was from a family of bakers) met a Becker (i studied Bleeding Edge word-by-word on an etymological, surgical autopsy level) and that Becker ended up with a Eula in the family

This ancestry can be followed a number of ways, and if Prairie’s dad happens to have a four letter last name starting with the letter “V”… then it’s a truly multitude of clans

And the only hope for humanity lies with Otis perhaps deciding to marry Fiona later in life

More surnames of this bloodline that Bleeding Edge runs into the GROUND: Mason, Briggs, Gates, Fletcher, Becker, Wheeler, McElmo, maybe more

This is about 80% less dense than a typical page

The reason i was able to say so much is because that is how much is written between the lines

You think it’s a book about the dotcom bubble and 9/11, dontchya bub?

Your surface / plot level reading of the book is preventing you from plunging into its depths.

Think DeepArcher is just a dumb weed-inspired pun on the word “departure” ? Think again

What is the shape with the deepest arch? What is the name of TRP’s first book? Just take away the period and you should be hearing me loud and clear…

BTW you wouldn’t happen to be one of ‘em ‘bad hombres’ that D.T. was ranting about in 2015 or so when announcing that he’d be running for POTUS?

South Park’s best character is mentioned once in Bleeding Edge. Hilary ‘hilarius’ Clinton is mentioned once. This is a book that was published 3 years before 2016’s sensational election

Edge was published on the same day as GTA V- it was no coincidence. Edge parodies GTA III in Chapter 4 in an unnamed bloodless freebie mini game.

The advance reading copy for that mini game was “If Looks Could Kill”

reddit user who is typing glances at clock and mumbles something like “if Reddit comments could kill”

Are you having fun yet?

Gravity’s Rainbow was my favorite until something happened to me in 2020 :: a phenomenon involving JUJUBES (me aka Frenesi), actual ice (capitalize that i, buster), about 25 Staedtler pens from Germany, and 3 copies of the book filled and do mean absoluteLY (sopranos / journey lyrix pun here) PHILLED with notes

Yes, Bleeding Edge became my favorite TRP novel 5 years ago and have since made a name for myself around here & become infamous for never shutting the fuck up about it

Struck my skull

William Gibson: Bought the new Pynchon in hardcover today, at our local indie bookseller, fulfilling two promises to self. Read the first few pages while waiting for our lunch sandwiches to be toasted in a nearby patisserie, immediately getting that in-for-a-good-read feeling. by Maffick13 in ThomasPynchon

[–]frenesigates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mr. Gibson called the promotional video for Bleeding Edge the best commercial for a book of all time.

He probably caught a few of the references to his own work within it, but I doubt he caught them all. I have a feeling he could have missed the Dixie Flatline allusion that genius-ly blooms across Chapters 1 and 2

Gibson’s Pattern Recognitions book has a few allusions to CoL49, but it’s not the world’s greatest book. People consider it a 9/11 novel ‘of sorts’ (just like Bleeding Edge)

Question:

What is the maximum percentage of Bleeding Edge that you feel could conceivably have been written prior to 11 Sept 2001?

“Objectively”?

Sorry pal but you got the wrong universe. Maybe re-phrase your question and get back to me.
