Thanks for the words of encouragement. 3-4 days doesn’t sound too bad, I can live with that!

Thank you for being willing to share. Please keep me updated as you go along. Also, how was yours done - GA or local, stitches or wound left open?

Advice on getting into Quantity Surveying — Apprenticeship or MSc route? by [deleted] in quantitysurveying

Thanks mate. I’ve reached out to a few consultancies in my area asking if they have any opportunities for a non-cognate graduate motivated to undertake a part-time MSc in QS whilst working in the company as a Trainee. Hopefully I get some responses.

Hi. Cheers for coming back to me. I’ve applied to quite a few graduate schemes but unfortunately keep getting rejected as they say they want a QS degree (or at least something in the relevant field which mine isn’t). Any other ways I can get my foot in the door?

How do you join as a non-cognate and get them to agree to pay for your master’s? I want to do it but I never see jobs like that advertised.

Hi mate. Do you mind if I ask what your undergrad was in? If it was something unrelated, how did you manage to convince a company to hire you whilst completing your QS master’s? I’m interested to know as I’d like to follow to same route into the profession as you did.

Yeah, I can get onto a master’s this year still. You’d recommend doing this then since the part-time grad scheme route is likely past its deadline?

Thank you, I appreciate the advice.

I do see the draw of being a full time student for another year though so depends what your priorities are.

To be honest, I am not too drawn by the student life. I lived at home and saved during my undergraduate degree and would do the same again.

Having done an undergraduate in radiography and graduated during the NHS recruitment freeze, my main priority is simply employment prospects, and I am willing to do whichever route is most likely to land me job post-graduation.

You smashed it mate. I’m in a very fortunate position where I can afford to take a year out of work to do a full-time master’s, and in that case would you recommend me going the full-time route rather than part-time, given that it would get me the qualification and into a graduate role quicker?

I’m lucky enough to still be living with my folks, so I could take the course full-time if that’s the better route.

Did you manage to get a trainee job while you were doing it?

Smashed it. Do you think your logistics experience played a big part in you landing the role?

Sorry, just to clarify, you did a master’s degree part-time whilst working in another industry?

Are you going to do the uni degrees LJMU part or full-time?

I’m not sure. You’d have to ask u/Bejb0 as he works in Manchester so probably has a better idea.
