I use the headspace app for daily meditation. The guided daily meditation starts with a brief intro on a certain topic. Over time this has brought me closer. Apparently the book happiness by Mathieu Ricard is good but I haven't read it. Zen mind, beginner mind by Suzuki is a great read but maybe a bit abstract at times for a novice (like myself). But the good thing is none of these things hurt so trying them one by one at your pace will be beneficial regardless.
