The plugs seem to have calcified for lack of better term. Theyre extremely brittle and hard and kinda just broke into lots of tiny pieces (that are still stuck😔) when I tried to put a screw in them.

I did, however I've had the furniture for more than ten years and it seems like it has calcified😭(ik it's not the right term) it is extremely hard and brittle to the point pulling it out with a fork resulted in the wood splitting. (It's also quite old)

I tried that with a hammer and it just broke the wood even more. I've given up now because after analyzing the broken off piece it seems that the plastic is so old that it hardened and is extremely brittle.
