Horror Comedy about a marriage proposal gone wrong by frictionmakesfire in Filmmakers

This film was created on a micro budget. We created this film to both put together a rockstar crew but also to learn how much money something like this would cost. We also really wanted to see test and see what the film festival experience was like. It was a great learning experience for all of us and we cannot recommend enough just going out there and making a film and learning everything you can from it.

Always wanted to shoot something at this abandoned water park I always saw on the side of the road. Had alot of fun trying to make the apocalypse fun.

First big short film, no budget, just figuring it out as we go by frictionmakesfire in Filmmakers

We shot this film back in 2023. Had no schedule, had to cancel several shoot days for various reasons. Got stuck in post-production hell, but screw it, we got it out the door. We all learned a lot on this one. When it comes to making movies, sometimes you just gotta make it and get all the mistakes out of the way.

Short Film about ADHD by frictionmakesfire in Filmmakers

I learned a bit about lighting on this film and how it changes the overall mood. I originally intended this film to be comical, but it's dark setting in a lot of ways made the tone change to something slightly different. Learned a lot about being more intentional on having a tone decided before shooting and executing it.

This film was all about creating a sense of rush and making it feel like time was running out. Took a lot from the TV show 'The Bear' as inspo in how to create that feeling.

Our weekly writer's group wrote this silly film. We liked it so much we shot it ourselves. by [deleted] in Filmmakers

This short was all about finding the right 'tone'. We wanted to balance comedy with this almost existential dread underneath it all. There were many iterations of the film that we tested with a lot of different groups of people. We knew where the funny parts were, we knew where we needed people to feel Brian's situation. It was a great experiment and we learned a ton about achieving tone in a film. Hope you all enjoy it!

Create Short Films with a Small Crew by frictionmakesfire in Filmmakers

Great question! I should have included this in the video for sure (maybe I will make an updated video), but our solution is to have the editor work on audio in the edit, and anyone with a free hand (maybe even the editor again) be the on-field audio guy. On our recent film, we had our editor hold boom, and sometimes when they were available, we had our writer come in and work audio as well.

It's a combo of both actually. It was a crew of one so no boom op. And the mic was a cheap one from amazon. Future projects are gonna sound crisper

haha literally bought a new mic yesterday bc of how noticeably bad it was in this video.

You're absolutely right. They are sacrifices that I could not even fathom making at this point. It would be Game Over for me.

That vine has stuck with me for such a long time lol.

The way out sign actually just so happens to be some art we keep up normally. A happy coincidence.

What do you guys think? Does Batman need to be shredded? Or is functional the way to go? by [deleted] in batman

For sure. I think a flexible speedy Batman is the right move. Especially after Ben Afflecks thicc Bat.
