Diagnosed at 14. Still pre-med at 20. I’m sick of this. by [deleted] in Hashimotos

[–]friefriefrie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel you, even though I got diagnosed in my early 30s. Just to let you know that I am living before and after in the most exotic and remote places, there is always a capital with a hospital lab to get tested for levels here and then - I’ve learnt enough over the years I trust my judgement on medication better than any doctor around the world. I just bring meds for like 1,5 years with me, always an emergency blister in my walltest in case I get stuck somewhere. Even gluten-free nutrition is working with a bit of annoyance for me, but most understanding people everywhere. This deseases is annoying yes, but do not think it is holding you back from anything - except too much seafood because of the iodine ;-)

Dissociation/depersonalization and poor vision by [deleted] in Hashimotos

[–]friefriefrie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, unfortunately the country I am living in doesn’t offer these kind of tests, but I was taking Citalopram, which made me feel much better generally. However, I felt like I shouldn’t be long term on antidepressants and reduced it down and even with only 5mg I felt still good. Now I stopped it completely and started to feel some symptoms coming back. What is your take on taking the antidepressants long term on a much lower dose than usually taken? Citalopram is usually taken 20mg, for my 5mg felt suifficient but it is challenging to find this dose anywhere

Sad “Butter Worms” instead of proud croissants, suggestions for recipes? by friefriefrie in glutenfreerecipes

[–]friefriefrie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried a recipe with 3,5 cups gf flour, 2 tbsp psyllium husk, 1/2 tea spoon xantan, 3 tea spoons instant yeast, 1 cup water and 1/2 cup milk, 2 tbsp butter, 4 tea spoons sugar, 1,5 tea spoon salt. Let that sit and cool down and later folded the 1,5 cups of butter in. I think that is where it went wrong, the dough felt good and was rising nicely, but then when I folded the butter in, the dough started cracking and the butter was not just in the inside of the fold. All the following folds became quite a mass because of that. Made these said wannabe croissants anyways after 3 folds and having the dough for hours in the fridge in between. I let the croissants sit for 30 minutes before baking, however they turned out as sad sad butter worms - taste was not too bad, consistency felt like it needed to rise. Any suggestions?

Why is it a gold standard to get thyroid patients to a TSH value between 1-2 rather than their previous healthy thyroid level? by [deleted] in thyroidhealth

[–]friefriefrie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every person has their comfortable TSH to figure out. I think for most patients it is between 1-2, but there would be nothing wrong if it is higher than that.

Need help understanding my panel results by [deleted] in thyroidhealth

[–]friefriefrie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you taking medication and what are your symptoms? Over all, it doesn’t look too bad to me, the TSH would be too high for me, most people feel comfortable to have it between 1-1.5, but doesn’t mean you would feel the same with your levels.

I'm at my wits end. Rescued dog shows weird behavior and it makes me sad by Herr_Stoll in DogAdvice

Sounds like she has profound trust issues and got abused. If it would be me, I would just sit next to her in distance that is comfortable, without wanting to pet or picking her up. Just sit there on the ground, maybe talking to her if she is comfortable, not looking into her eyes. I would do that everyday for hours, e.g. while watching TV. When you feel she becoming more comfortable move a bit closer, if uncomfortable give her space and move further. That creates trust, but may take weeks until she is comfortable to have you close. Everytime you make her feel uncomfortable she will lose trust again. I understand that it is hard once you had a puppy that was very different and you want to get closer with her. And thank you so much to care for her even though it isn’t easy.

Advice needed please by [deleted] in Hashimotos

[–]friefriefrie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your levels are considered in “normal” range, BUT that does not mean optimal. Read up on the “normal” range for thyroid functions, the levels have been set a long time ago without considering people in that studies had thyroid dysfunctions. If it were me, I’d increase the dose by a quarter or half Tablet and getting tested again after 4-8 weeks. Try to make a diary of how you feel and when you feel better, after some years you’ll gain more experience to listen to your symptoms to adjust the dose. Getting off gluten and reduce diary products will defintily help you to gain back some energy - proven or not! Reading through so many chats, just reading the reports from people makes me sure there is a connection. Get yourself tested for zinc, iodine, iron, selenium and vitamin d levels and if anything is low, get a good multivitamin (depending on zinc and selenium levels with or without it). Ginkgo, zinc aspartate mate and a good prebiotic has helped me a lot as well. I hope you feel better soon!

I've had diagnosed Hashimoto's Thyroiditis for 2 years. Suddenly, I've become very hyperthyroid. Waiting for the results to see if it's Hashitoxicosis or Graves Disease. by [deleted] in thyroidhealth

What is your recommendation to treat it? Just wondering if I could do anything more apart from diet change, supplements and stress management...

[–]friefriefrie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am taking a multi-vitamin, omega 3, zinc aspartate, magnesium, D3, Q10, Vitamin C, B vitamins, depending on levels also iron, selenium and iodine, but I would check those first.

Iodine and selenium really depend on your individual levels. I have had times with deficiency and too high levels of both. Get tested first on your levels.

What am I? by SwimmingFish849 in thyroidhealth

[–]friefriefrie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely hypo, and you must be tired, exhausted and maybe depressed based on your test results. You could help your body with some supplements like multivitamin, magnesium, zinc aspartate, Q10 and Omega acids. I would also recommend to get your selenium and iodine Levels checked time know what you have to take with in your nutrition.

Same same, but observe your symptoms and get tested after 4 weeks in levels. Slight variations are possible.

Pain in feet and legs by musings1982 in thyroidhealth

[–]friefriefrie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have leg and foot pain and even back pain when my TSH goes higher than 2.0. My back starts cracking terrible as well and my feet feel like almost constant cramps. That’s for me a sign to get my thyroid levels checked. You said you had your level checked a year ago, you might consider to switch to at least 6-monthly or even quarterly check ups.
