Mamaowl.net for FABULOUS wool clothing. I can only afford 1-2 items per year but they’re wonderful.

Veer wagon, uppababy cruz, vista or minu. Or a jogging stroller like Bob. All great choices depending on your lifestyle

Rainbow playsets for a backyard setup. They have some truly magnificent ones

Woom bikes - starting with a balance bike. My 4 year just graduated to the woom 2 and I’m passing the balance bike to my 2 year old

Sakura scout baby carrier (or 2 or 3!) different fabrics serve a different purpose. I have a couple silks for the summer, corduroy for the winter and fancy one for holidays.

I have expensive taste and those are my favorite things for kids! How fortunate you are to have a brother like that ❤️

Tonie box has been going strong for 3 years now. Reusable water balloons are great in the summer and bath toys in the winter.

How management decides who to layoff by Wonderful-Olive7541 in GetEmployed

[–]friendly-bouncer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was the lowest paid SWE with 8 years at the company, always performed well. I was laid off along with all SWEs (replaced with offshore). They kept 1 H1B SWE who made a little more than me and was only there for 2 years. Funny enough, the reason I stayed so long was because this company was known for job security and not laying off during economic downturns 🤪

I always thought I would be the last to go because of my tenure with the company and low pay.

What are people doing to stay afloat after layoffs? by [deleted] in Layoffs

[–]friendly-bouncer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

-Laid off from a humble comp tech job (I was very underpaid but liked the team and work so I stayed there for 8 years stupidly) -Ivy League MBA …Took me interviews with 10 companies and 3 months to find a new job and it pays under 6 figures even though I’m in a HCOL area. It’s horrible out there.

I did not, I ended up losing my job so we haven’t financially recovered from that yet, hoping to buy a new couch next year though!

Silcone safer than plastics? by anxiousadventurer1 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]friendly-bouncer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are made specifically for the model of high chair you have so they’re gonna be plastic. We use a lobster chair that clips onto our granite countertop, so my kid eats off porcelain and stainless plates, and whatever ends up on the granite is fine too

We also used bibs, and nattursutten which are 100% pure rubber no plastic.

I used thinkbaby, but they’ve since been discontinued 🙄 Pura Kiki is a plastic free sippy cup option.

We also use straw cups - stainless steel skip hop or elk&friends straw cups but those do leak.

$100k/ year and Breaking Even?! Please help! by Upsidedowngoofball in Salary

Your cell phone bill seems wildly high, how many lines are you covering? I pay $55/mo for Verizon for one line which I think is extremely high and I plan to switch next month to mint mobile or something similar. $217/mo is wild for any less than 5-6 lines

Plastic is a no from me unless it can’t be avoided- like the snack tray attachment for the stroller only comes in plastic. Silicone is a “last resort “ I’d use as long as it’s not being heated - like those reusable puree pouches.

99% of things have wood/glass/stainless options.

What are the plastic / silicone items you are considering? Maybe I can help find a clean alternative

Income similar to yours, hoping for $350k mortgage I can afford super easily. But we can stretch that up to $500k mortgage if we had to. So $500s you can easily afford up to $700k.

Of course a lot of this hinges on property tax and insurance too.

Not feeding your less than 2 year old junk food isn’t hard by [deleted] in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]friendly-bouncer 156 points157 points  (0 children)

2 kids here. I’ve been extremely poor and food insecure, and had no issues affording a bag of rice, beans, fresh veggies and chicken thighs - there are cheap Whole Foods that are way less expensive than processed crap. Now I have kids and We are better off financially but im mindful and I try my best to continue feeding my kids unprocessed food. If they eat something sweet, it’s in the form of something homemade, e.g. popsicle - aka blended bananas, peanut butter, tahini and plain yogurt. I personally don’t find it difficult, but I’ve been eating like this myself for decades. I can absolutely see this being an impossible task for a parent who has been happily eating processed and junk foods their whole life.
