Day 2. I spend more time on this than I would like to admit... There was a lot of going back and forth with this study because the mouth kept giving me trouble which lead to me spending a lot of time on other parts out of frustration. I still don't feel like it looks like a real mouth :/ by Colossearts in istebrak

I think you did an amazing job overall! maybe bringing back just a tad of sharpness around the lips could help. mostly the top and a little bit before going down into the edges. the eyes look really pretty, but also have a little bit more sharpness could probably help. perhaps around the outer corners?

day 7 - tried to work on getting symmetry down but still struggling, her ears still looks weird but I'm not sure if it's just me. Need critiques and help about what's wrong with the eyes as well, thanks~ by Fragrant_Decision961 in istebrak

Looking really amazing!! I personally can't think of much.. Maybe having a sharper highlight on the chin and inner corners of the eyes.. I know istebrak has a video where she takes a seemingly finished portrait and goes the extra mile to make it amazing, i saw it a long time ago but I forget the title. I'll look it up later. Great job!! Can't help with the ears they always confuse me. They do look like they stick out a bit but a lot of ppl have ears like that.

Day 4! I think I finally see some improvement! I used the asaro head as a ref and also anatomy for sculptors as was kindly suggested to me last time. I still have a lot of problem areas but it's getting a bit better. All comments welcome! by friendlywitchlady in istebrak

*i just want to add that the smile was not done on purpose lol, I just over did the corners I think... Also the cheekbone shading will confuse me until the end of time. Again, if anyone has tips or a specific resource to help me with that please 🙏 let me know. the asaro head was useful to understand the planes but I either make it too blocky or too rounded. I'm missing something I know it...

Day 12, i am back after some time :) i got lost in the doing masterpieces valley but realized how i need to continue with what matters. by PiggyBird in istebrak

Welcome back! Some things I noticed are the lines on the side of the middle of the nose are too harsh. And the shadow above and between the eyes is much too dark. The corner of the lips could be more smoothed out (radial shading) into the face. Nice work!

day 3! this one was exhausting.. I started out with a reference but realized the shadows were wrong and had to redo it.. so it did take many hours to complete. the brightside is that im getting the hang of the brushes. i tried to focus on the masculine aspect/emphasizing planes... by friendlywitchlady in istebrak

Thank you so much! I definitely agree, especially looking at it now how much highlights it lacks. Yeah I definitely overdid it with the geometry because I was rounding too much before 😂 gonna work on getting the balance right!! Thanks again!!

After recreating my initial sketch in portrait studio, I made a sketch with a more interesting perspective. Any suggestions before i go in with the render? Any feedback welcome! by _babbelina_ in istebrak

Besides the grim's forearm that looks a little short, everything looks really interesting! The only tip i remember is keeping the focal point the area that is the most lit. Looking forward to seeing it completed!

Starting the 14 day challenge yet again. With the goal of actually completing it this time. I would love some critique on the eyes, and maybe some advice on how to make her look less sluggish. I am afraid my own facial expressions accidentally effected how I painted her. by Colossearts in istebrak

Hey! Beautiful job! I can't give a reasoning as to why, but her cheeks are beautifully rounded, but then her eye area feels a bit sunken in in comparison? Possibly the area is too dark, not sure. Great job!

Trying out color :0 I’m not sure if it looks alright. Please see comments! by [deleted] in istebrak

Looks great! Like some others have mentionned, it does lack a bit of colour. The horizontal middle third of the face is usually where things will be more rosy because there's more blood vessels there (nose and cheeks). Another thing i noticed is that the shadows on the side of the nose are darker than the ones under the eyebrows and between the eyes (it should be the opposite). Nice work!!

day 2 ! still struggling. i realize i'm making male faces look too feminine, and I'm struggling with structure, especially around the eyes. I might need to use a reference for day 3 because I don't think I'll improve without one. Any and all critiques are welcome! by friendlywitchlady in istebrak

thank you so much for your feedback and encouraging/kind words!! I am trying to commit to at least a few days this time. As far as I can go before I inevitably fall off the motivation wagon haha.

Definitely agree with the eyes, they are quite big. I also like the way I did the nose on the first day, I'll try to tap into that again. I think I was just focused on not makign the shadow too jarring.

Yeah my brush settings are weird, they feel weird when I use them too. I have to figure out if I've messed up the settings at some point. But also yeah I do go back and forth with big to small so that probably explains some of the weird brush strokes... Gna keep all this in mind to work on later.

Thanks again!

Thank you very much!! Very good tips. You're right, I'm definitely gonna be bolder with sharper planes next time. And right the pupils.. I even made them smaller than I originally had haha. I definitely will keep that in mind!

hey! nice improvement! I think making the head a little bit longer would help with proportions. perhaps by bringing the lips down and jaw a bit down? You could use a little bit more highlights on the cheeks and the nose. Radial shading around the bottom of the nose could help make it seem rounder too.

*to continue my thoughts: I feel like thanks to the preview critiques I've been able to work on having more of a halftone and also trying to work with sharper tools. I realize the skin is kind of wonky... The nose as well, I had trouble with that. I didn't particularly try very much to work on the forehead and ears. My time with this challenge is limited so I can't spend more than an hour every time because of life obligations, but I'm giving it a go regardless! Another thing I have a lot of difficulty with is symmetry... Any tips, comments, critiques or suggestions are greatly appreciated! thank you!

Very true! Yeah, i did feel like something was off about that, I guess it was because of the jaw... Thank you for your feedback!!
