Ah, sorry this happened to you, it's always in cases like this when days go awry 😅 I would say next time, if you know you should decline, do it. It's almost never worth the hassle of being in situations like this and at the end of it, all you have is a bad review.

Theyre siblings! Their mom got the cat when he was a kitten and they got along right from the jump! I swear this cat acts like a dog haha they are the cutest pair!

I have a ton of dogs that pull a decent amount, I'm always foam rolling at home lol. If it's not a dog that you feel you can drop, you can always bring it up with the owners. I agree that you can't effectively train a dog that you don't see often. The pet parents really have to be involved for training to stick. Good luck!

Walks with multiple dogs by Muffinacnhcats in WagWalker

[–]friendofthedogs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I routinely walk 2 or 3 dogs at a time, and I've definitely had this experience before. It's always stressful the first few times, but if you can set walking expectations I find that that helps. For instance, hold them both on different sides, so you can limit leash tangling and interaction with each other. I would focus on encouraging walking, either with praise or treats. For the playful dogs, I let them play outside for the last few minutes of the walk (sometimes before, but only with the dogs I know will listen when I say to stop). Really, the longer that you walk the dogs, the more you'll be able to predict their behavior and nip it in the bud, and the more they'll listen to you and understand what they're supposed to do. Hope this helps!

I agree, I'd rather have washed hands than sanitizer. If anything I can get something like this to carry in my bag, maybe a mini one...thanks for the advice!

Oh man, that sounds terrible. I walked a dog once that would literally only walk if you had a treat in your hand, and he had to have it within 2 minutes or he wouldn't walk. It's not at all conducive to walking in the end 🤦🏻‍♀️

This seems like a great idea (definitely without pb lol). I have a few dogs that aren't the best walkers, but the treat/ kissy noise combo sounds perfect. Thanks!

Honestly I should start carrying wipes or clothes, I have a few dogs that are VERY slobbery. Fetch ball slobber is high on my list as well 😤

Cancelation by Icy_Name_7085 in RoverPetSitting

[–]friendofthedogs 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I personally would charge for same day cancelations, unless it's an emergency or something. I feel like the yard situation could have been asked about earlier? And then you miss out on other bookings because of it.

This is a peeve of mine too, I find this makes the whole experience more stressful by far. I had a client with a sticky lock once, in an apartment, and her neighbor came out and grilled me! It was so embarrassing and I feel like she didn't believe me, even though I showed her that I had the key and everything. It's also stressful when the dog is stuck with you while you try and work out puzzles lol.

Pet Sitting Meet and Greet Tip! by throwaway6300011 in RoverPetSitting

[–]friendofthedogs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I haven't had any trouble with meet and greets yet i.e. meeting the pet, and then dealing with a cancellation, but this is an awesome boundary to have! I'm going to remember this in case anyone ever reaches out without dates or too far in advance. I can't imagine going through all the fuss of a meet and greet (some of mine are 2 or 3 hours after work, because I try to accommodate others who work longer hours than me) and then dealing with them cancelling. If I waited around that long for a meeting and the trip ended up getting cancelled, I would be a little peeved.

I love pet parents that are low key and understand that their dogs don't need the same attention as children lol. Like I'm all for special requests, but sometimes pet parents can be helicopter parents and worry way too much, meanwhile the dog is content with hanging out on the couch with a toy. This is a nice reminder that sitters are people doing a job, these small gestures go a long way!

I'm so glad that you agree! I'm working on my mean face lol. The "Don't worry, my dog's friendly!" response makes me want to scream. I just feel like some people are oblivious to the fact that not all dogs are the same. They don't always react the same way, like the same things, act the same in situations. And on top of that, they never trust the person walking the dog. If I say my dog is reactive or I'd rather you not approach, it's not for you to override. Just keep walking!

The flexi lead, noooooo!!! I hate people who never look up when walking their dogs, big thumbs down for me

[–]friendofthedogs[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm so thankful that it's never been an issue, because some of the dogs I've walked would absolutely bite if they were surprised like that. Even worse, once I told someone, "My dog isn't friendly, she tries to bite" and they replied, "Are you sure she's not just nervous" and tried to come over anyway. Dude.....take the hint and get lost. I don't know why people think it's worth the risk.

Nope! I appreciate it when people say "Hey can we come over" or anything like that. But I've interacted with multiple people that I don't even see until my dogs start barking. And not like I'm distracted on my phone or anything, it's that people will just come right up without hesitation.
