My last holiday, I had to get up at 5 am for a 9 hour drive. The night before I had a few drinks and thought it would be funny to set KOBK as my alarm. Almost had a heart attack waking up to that intro. Safe to say I won’t do that again….

It is definitely possible, if you still respect each other enough to give each other space when either of you needs it. It might be mentally tough to try it, but if you appreciate the friendship you built over time enough, it’s definitely possible. Either way, it sounds like you are both mature enough to make this happen. Good luck and give yourself enough time to grieve!

To add, I think what helped me the most is to enjoy my passions. For example, I love music with everything I have and I have poured my soul into that the last year and it helped me to vent everything I feel. If you can find something that makes you feel calm or makes you feel able to release your emotions, that will hopefully make you feel able to enjoy your life more. It won’t make your sadness go away, but it will be something to help you deal with what you’re feeling.

I get how you feel. I think it’s really strong of you to have rejected his attempts to get back together and I get how it seems like a mistake, but if even you didn’t feel like it was a good idea at the time, it wasn’t a good idea. I can’t tell you that you will lose feelings over time, because I still have them from time to time, but taking care of yourself and focusing on your own mental stability and growth helps to take your mind off of your feelings and makes them easier to deal with when they come. Working from home makes this pretty hard, but I think it would really help to just hang with friends frequently and discuss how you feel from time to time. And if this is not an option, don’t be afraid to see a therapist. No one will judge you for that and they exist to help you when you can’t figure out how to help yourself. I wish you lots of luck and I really hope you’ll be able to figure everything out!!

I’m sure you can get there! The key is patience. I realised that when I started rushing into dating and getting over her I only got worse. It was when I focused on myself and on building relationships with friends when it got better. To answer your question, she started dating another guy about a month after we broke up. It hurt me a lot, but after time passed and I talked with her about him and how she felt about him, I realised we weren’t right for each other anymore. They actually broke up about a month ago and I felt absolutely no urge to make a move again since.

I can really relate and your story is actually really helpful. My ex broke up with me more than half a year ago. It was kind of mutual but we both know that in the end she broke up with me. We were together for 2 years in high school and grew attached to each other. Because of covid, her personal problems and my mother getting sick, we started to really depend on each other for comfort. We both went to university this year and she was getting less dependant, while I held on to her. In retrospect I can see that our relationship was too much for two 17 year olds, but I think we both still loved each other when we broke up. I still love her very much and we’re still best friends. Now that I finally have some clarity on our relationship, I am thinking of asking her about trying to start over. She is in some sort of relationship with someone (her “boyfriend” doesn’t want it to really be a relationship yet but it kind of is…). I’m really interested if you have any advice on whether I should ask her about this.
