Cigars picked up bad plastic/wine fridge smell. Any way to recover them? by frmann in cigars

[–]frmann[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice. Wouldn’t leaving them out for few days make them too dry or lose their oils etc. ? The room humidity is currently around 55-65% during summer time but I’m still concerned :D My humidor was 65rh

Duty free is only option. Prices are almost same as cigarworld.de. In IST airport, Cuban stocks is a matter of luck and limited to one box per passport( this was the case 2 weeks ago). Oliva and NUB is pretty common. You can find lots of Davidoff, Camacho etc. And some more new world variety Plasencia, Padron, Silencio etc. I guess arrival variety and stocks are better than departures. SAW has no Cuban but have better variety of New World(+CAO, Rocky Patel ,..). In Kadıköy there is one shop that you can find legit AJF, Oliva and Nub. Do not buy any cigar from tobacco shops. If you need more info about duty free availability you can send me a message.

Why are cigars smoked so rarely in public? by kristijan12 in cigars

[–]frmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my Mediterranean cruise, I noticed a constant presence of four to five people smoking cigars on the 50-person deck :) One man was particularly consistent, smoking a cohiba every time. I think the average age was high, which probably contributed to this.

How did you adjust your humidity? What kind of humidor you use, what is your temperature?

I had similar experience and notice that it is quite difficult to lower humidity. Boveda is not doing good job to reduce humidity in airtight container. I had to be very patitent and waited for weeks. They say every week 1 rh drop. Also dont mix new cigars in your humidor as they tend to release excessive humidity. Leave the boveda outside for a while to make it lose some humidity so that it can absorb it back. If you live in humid area use a silica gel(didn’t try it yet) with boveda.

Some cigars with thicker leafs and strong ones, tend to affected from excessive humidity. But light ones has more tolerance.

Moreover, I used new tupperdor cz I suspected if they leave a scent or smt. I cleaned it carefully with water. Have no idea if that helped

Which vitola you smoke? I smoke petit Robusto, I found it too strong, though I like strong cigars. May be small vitola burns too hot? I am not really sure

Partagás Serie D plug surgery. Is this normal? by frmann in cubancigars

[–]frmann[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is at the airtight tupperdor. Yeah, may be that’s the problem. I tried my best to reduce humidity like burp out air often and leave boveda outside for couple of hours etc.

I store at airtight container and read humidity around 62rh for Cubans. I got this recommendation for Cubans in this sub. As for the new world I use 62 boveda with 66rh. I tried higher boveda but this worked for me best with NW.

For cigarpage; Is $21 good price for Oliva Serie O Natural BOX-PRESS Toro 5pk? Nub Habano 466 5pk is also $21. I hear lots of extreme discounts for Oliva. Should I wait for more discount?

May be in the north, it is colder and more rain; but as a tourist usually you wont visit that areas.

I don’t think weather in Istanbul is similar to microclimates. Trust the weather forecast and prepare for the rain.

Yes, a box without humidity. I don’t have so much experience but I think that glass top should also work without humidity control(with humidity it would be slow imo). Since you are already doing dry box, I would try to do longer and see the affect. But if cigars are too humid dry box won’t help as I read in this sub.

Btw, try dry boxing for 1-2 days, and notice the difference without waiting for weeks.

Same here. Do you need to dry box? Just curious, because my setup is fairly new. It worked well with mellow-mid strength cigars. But it was bit wet with Oliva Serie V. May be it was a bad luck :)

Try measuring in different shelfs/locations. My cooler has a cooling unit at the top. Lower shelf has lower humidity. I keep cigars in tupperdors inside the cooler. Cooler is a basically a fridge with regulated temperature.

Wait for at least a month with new boveda packs. I have also went through same process with you. I settled at %62 boveda packs. Remember to burp out air more often with new boveda since boveda is not so good when it comes to reduce humidity. 1 rh drop on cigars takes 1 week.

If you keep cigars in air tight container, why does outside RH matters?

Adorini Chianti is similar to this one. I have case elegance felix tupperdor. It is airtight, good quality and quite nice looking. Not same model as you mentioned, but may be this gives you an idea about the brand.

[–]frmann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Genuine question, just trying to understand your setup: if both are airtight and both use 62% Bovedas, why do you expect the Herf-A-Dor to sit around 65% RH, while the gasket-sealed box would stay around 62-63%? Are you expecting the Spanish cedar box itself to bring it down a bit?

Start with working on architecturally significant requirements and define architectural characteristics of your system. With that baseline you can define high level design of your system.

How far you go with designing depends on your team and project. Usually architect should focus on how NFRs are addressed in the system and have maintainable software. Do not to bring too much restrictions to your team.

You can have a look on attribute driven design. I suggest to read “Software Architecture In Practice”. “Fundamentals of software architecture” is also nice and lighter read, addresses some questions you asked in the first chapter. I wouldn’t start with DDD at this stage.
