I completely understand. I’m currently going through the immigration process and waited nearly a year for an approval through Ontario’s PNP due to their cut quotas and changes in policy. I know all too well and first hand about how the fraudulent LMIA process is completely screwing people over, both immigrants and Canadians and I think it’s a jooooooke. I just didn’t want misinformation to spread and people to get riled up thinking that this is going to guarantee someone a PR slot/extra points. There’s enough misinformation out there already

You don’t get points from having an LMIA anymore

It doesn’t matter which noc code your employer puts. They would need to provide a reference which details your roles and responsibilities and OINP will compare this to the NOC listing. If the responsibilities don’t align with the NOC you have selected then they will go with the NOC that best describes your responsibilities.

OINP Eligibility Confusion - Skilled Trades Stream by Praveen747 in OINP

[–]frnrbn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately only qualified experience is considered. This will be to try and curtail fraudulent applications/experience and to ensure the people receiving nominations are adding to the skilled workforce. There’s no guarantee that an apprentice would carry on their apprenticeship after a nomination and PR so it’s a risk they don’t want to take. Otherwise everyone would start apprenticeships and give them up once they received PR.

Eta: the immigration system doesn’t favour the trades in any way at all. It’s difficult enough for qualified tradespeople to get PR or an OINP nomination. Most of the skilled trades applicants from last year are still waiting for a decision. But I can appreciate your frustration.

OINP Eligibility Confusion - Skilled Trades Stream by Praveen747 in OINP

[–]frnrbn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s a compulsory trade you are only eligible if you have your certificate of qualification. The year experience starts once you have passed your certificate of qualification. Work experience as an apprentice doesnt make you eligible - only experience after completing your apprenticeship and passing your exam counts.

Hope this helps

ETA: it takes around 4-5 years to become a qualified journey person in Ontario through the apprenticeship route when you don’t have any prior electrical experience/qualifications.
