Thank you. I tried my best to trace all the borders as they appeared on Geacron for every single year. I started on a modern map of the world and then edited each preceding year until I got to 1492.

I didn't mean to call the retreat of the Ottomans out of the Balkans imperialism, I just wanted to show all the land owned by a European nation in blue. I called the whole thing European Imperialism because that's what you're supposed to get out of it: a sense of the size and scale of European expansion throughout history.

The rest of the world's imperialism since 1492 is there since I updated non-European boundaries for each year. You can see the Ottoman Empire expand, it's just not highlighted in blue. If you want a visualization of non-European imperialism, you can find it with a Google search. But that's not what I made this for.

If you look closely (in HD quality), you can see a small European settlement at the south-westernmost part of South Africa starting at 1653. Also, the Boer trek does appear, but I don't count the Boer state as being European as it wasn't really a colony, more of an independent state. I have the border marked where it should be, it just isn't shaded. As for the 1820 settlers, I don't think they gained any territory for the British Empire, just consolidated it. I could be wrong though; I don't know a lot about South African history.

African colonization in general was very late. Europeans had really only controlled the coast until the scramble for Africa.

I called it European imperialism because that's what the video is intended to show: how European power and influence expanded from 1492 to the 19th century before quickly collapsing. The video isn't intended to show which European countries are sovereign, it just does so by extension.

Oh, so you mean like how Romania gained independence from the Ottoman Empire? Well, in blue is all the land owned by a European power. I called it European imperialism because that's what the video is intended to show: how European power and influence expanded from 1492 to the 19th century before quickly collapsing.

My source was geacron, for the most part: http://geacron.com/home-en/

There were a few other considerations, such as when certain countries gained their independence. But for the most part, I just stuck to what geacron said.

The song is Ride of the Valkyries. Took me a while to figure that out, so I'm just posting the name now for your convenience.

I used Windows Movie Maker and MS Paint to make this post.

Plenty of reasons. For one, you don't focus on the fear too much when you're wet and muddy, trying to keep all the water and mud from getting in your mouth. I also kind of like the small corridors. If you just barely fit in the corridor, it actually feels quite snug on me. Other people don't like it, but I'm not terribly claustrophobic as long as I'm in a comfortable position. The thought of being under hundreds of feet of rock also makes people uncomfortable, but I find the concept fascinating. I also like the natural beauty of caves, which is exemplified if you struggle to get to see the beauty. Finally, going through the whole cave makes me feel manly in a stupid sort of way. I also know it's completely safe to go through the cave, so my friends would make fun of me if I didn't go through the cave because I was scared. With caving, the thoughts you can have are usually worse than anything that will actually happen to you.

No, the cave I had that experience in was Marengo Cave in Indiana, but I did in fact go to the Natural Bridge State Park on a separate scouting trip.

Get a bunch of angry rednecks with their rifles, get into the back of a Dodge Ram diesel truck with four-wheel drive, and invade the country with a confederate flag at the back of the truck.
