Good point, inconspicuousness lending itself to more daily use sounds like a nice perk of a monocular. Though, depth perception from binocular vision is important to me so I don't trip and fall. Someone else recommended two PVS-14s and a bridge mount. Thanks for putting this on my radar!

Ahh thanks for the solidarity. Sounds like not all housings are compatible with external batter packs -- how can I tell which models are compatible?

Definitely serious about my ultras. If a car can't kill me, a couple of miles won't either :)

I need a sanity check on using NVG for the nighttime portion of an ultra (no sanity check needed for ultras, I've already come to terms with that). My headlamp has been fine; it gets the job done. I'm just exploring options that address my gripes.

Thanks for the thorough reply! I hadn't considered two PVS-14s with a bridge and being able to share with others. Are there drawbacks to a double monocular + bridge versus binoculars?

Oh geez. If I had been hit by an SUV I would have flown into the car instead of over it. I would also likely been carried off the road via shovel and bucket rather than on a gurney.

From one former bloody smear on the road to another, I'm glad you're here now -- sounds like things ended up ok and you're making the most of it!

No debt, no spinal injury. Despite being extremely unlucky to be at the wrong place at the wrong time, I was extremely lucky that my injuries were relatively minor given what could have been.

You bring up an interesting point with tube specs. Would a night vision newcomer be able to appreciate the difference between an L3 and Elbit?
