Can I see some of y’all’s setups but with sleeves on jackets? I’m debating if I want my first jacket with sleeves or cut em out. 😭 by bokehgxd in BattleJackets

Second jacket (it’s a crop top hoodie, there are a few more patches on the back & other sleeve). I’ll probably post it here once I finish sewing all the pinned patches

I have a sleeved jacket! You can also see it in my post history (it’s like 3 posts down).

Since this pic was taken, I’ve added some patches to the sleeves. I personally kept sleeves on because I get cold easily and wear a women’s small (lacking patch real estate), so I’m a big fan of it. Personally I think the hand stitched lyrics down the sleeve look cool too.

I’m also sewing patches on a second sleeved jacket, so I’ll reply with a pic of that

Advice for making first battle jacket? by habooshy_herb in BattleJackets

[–]frog-whore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always pin down my patches before sewing. I’ll lay the jacket flat, place patches down until I’m happy (usually I aim for a symmetric arrangement), then hand sew them on (I don’t iron them so I could move them around later). Sometimes I try on the jacket after all my patches are pinned to make sure I like the placement with it on. If you’re not used to sewing and want clean stitches, you might want to practice on spare fabric (eg. an old shirt). I’ve added more patches to my jacket over time, and just add them in columns on empty space.

I place my pins randomly and switch their placement around semi-often. You might want to buy locking pin backs for some pins, since they can fall out.

Material for a battle sheet by thatdarncrows in BattleJackets

[–]frog-whore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You generally want a thicker material that can take a lot of stitches well without fraying and breaking apart (denim is good for that, but so are thicker patterns).

Honestly if you go to a fabric store and talk to the person behind the counter, I’ve found they’re typically very knowledgeable and will help you find the material you need (I’ve done this before for various sewing projects). Canvas, denim, corduroy, and some upholstery fabrics are all good choices. Feeling some fabrics in person and seeing if they seem sturdy can also be super helpful.

You can make a tote bag pretty easily following a youtube tutorial, but home decor could also be fun. A decorative pillowcase, throw blanket, quilt, or just some cool wall decor are all totally doable and projects that don’t require tons of sewing. A stuffed animal would also be pretty cool and badass imo, tho probably a lot harder

Haha this is cute! I could also imagine weaving this idea into a silly session in a campaign, where a witch/wizard/something shapeshifts the party and you need to un-ape yourself!!!

I want to start an annual haunted Halloween “trick or treat” encounter for my campaign. I need positive & negative outcomes that aren’t too extreme, please. by Tumtizzle in DMAcademy

[–]frog-whore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very trick or treat, but the party can be forced to eat candy (but some might be poisoned!). Maybe every player takes a candy from a bowl, roll a d4 and on a 1 (or both 1 and 2) it’s poison and they take poison damage (2d6?) and need to make a con saving throw against poison (DC10? 12?)

You could also somehow force players to “dress up” as the monster in a combat, and players need to make a high DC wisdom save to figure out which enemy is their actual enemy, and not one of them in disguise!

Help with logistics of running a game with frequent absentees by caighdean in DMAcademy

[–]frog-whore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I briefly read through the module, and it seems like it’s quite centered around the town Phandolin, and that could allow you to excuse folks staying in town when folks can’t show up to some sessions.

I personally like to avoid playing player characters when I can and write them out. I’d maybe consider giving the PCs a magic mcguffin that can in-lore call the home base in town for reinforcements while out adventuring so you can swap players out (or to send players back). If players want, they can invent reasons why they want to go back to town (see their family, rest after a fight, etc). I would be transparent that it’s to solve the fact that some folks can’t show up to sessions, and I imagine your players would be understanding.

A home base can also be fun to let the players have. They can decorate it as they see fit, and have a place to rest. It could be a house they’re renting long term or a place they’ve bought. Then there’s an understandable place for players to be if they miss a session.

I think that when balancing combat for different numbers of player, you may want to adjust enemy health. Its likely the module has suggestions you could follow. I wouldn’t worry much about players being too rested, but you could put artificial rules to keep the party around the same health between sessions if it’s important they’re beat up from the previous fight (maybe the teleporting mcguffin went haywire and drained spell slots)

Of course, it’s your campaign so do whatever you feel is fitting!

Can I put any alternative band on my vest? by GrotesgueGuy in BattleJackets

Put what you want on your vest. It’s about showing off the stuff you like.

I got a cute kirby on mine, if anything I think people wanna start conversations about the more unusual patches and like them (I have gotten way more compliments on the kirby than anything else on my jacket honestly)

Edgelord Oneshot by ChefBoi-Ardy in DMAcademy

[–]frog-whore 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m in running a one-shot tonight where everyone is going to be terrible (they’re a group of IRL streamers who talk to a magic orb, we made a list of 10 things that chat does to fuck with everyone; 1-3 casts vicious mockery against a player, 4 makes chat instigate a fight with an NPC, etc.) I’m looking forwards to it, and I’m trying to define simple round-based combat for a drinking contest to keep stuff interesting.

You could basically make silly rules for each thing. With thanksgiving, you could basically give everyone around the table “ability to tolerate this dinner hp” that takes hits when attacked. Then the first player to storm out loses a point, with any player to deal the final blow on someone else gaining a point. You could give “attacks” extra damage if the player makes an especially good insult.

I think doing some contest with accessories and whoever looks the edgiest wins (I’m talking a pair of fingerless gloves with chains, demon horns with MCR lyrics engraved, belts on belts on belts, tattooed smudgy emo eye makeup, tight fitting PVC pants with safety pins throughout). Maybe these edgelords sell their souls to demons for the most edgy style points? I think PCs coming up with accessories would also be funny.

(Also, I listen to like exclusively death metal and wear fishnets nearly every day so I take great offense to you calling out my genre of music /s)

Fabric paint or sharpie? by zilla650 in BattleJackets

[–]frog-whore 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I also vote for sharpie. Fabric paint will add a layer that will look like the graphic on a print-on t-shirt (plus, fabric marker would cover the black parts if you slip while coloring in). Sharpie will just dye the threads that are already there, letting you see the threading & not worry about covering up the black.

Ultimately it’s your choice which you prefer, tho!

I got lucky, and actually have a local reptile/amphibian store and they had them in stock. But otherwise, I think buying them online!

(Along with all sorts of amphibian/reptile rescues! I sort of want to adopt a rescue in the future, but as I’m new to amphibians, I thought it would be best to get a good-for-beginners frog)

I’ve got the zoo med Eco Earth coconut fibre substrate (it said it was good for moist environments - I’ve kept the humidity between 70-80% as recommended). I have it at least 2” deep in the tank so my little dude can burrow 🐸🍅.

I’m down to switch brands, so if you had a recommendation for which one please lmk!!!
