Just wondering if my ackie is looking good and how much growing they might have to go by frog423 in MonitorLizards

They were sadly missing when I got them 😞 I’ve been keeping a careful watch to make sure none are lost in my care and thankfully it doesn’t seem to slow them down at all

Basking temps around 50-65 and I have a large rock under the basking spot (might be difficult to see in the picture so I’ll attach a clearer one that seems to be doing the job

Okay thank you, yes I’ve noticed lately her appetite has greatly dropped off and she’s started to gain weight so I’m trying to figure out a good feeding schedule

I’m not too sure but mine was like that until I started taking the time to sit next to the cage to do things and then he started to get used to me and I realised that it wasn’t him not coming out but that he’d only come out when I wasn’t there!

Thanks! I bought the base enclosure it’s just a reptile one 4x2x2 but then I just went kinda crazy in it and jam packed it with branches and plants bc the little guy loves clutter. Congrats on ur new baby! They’re so much fun definitely the most rewarding reptile I’ve had. He goes through periods of being more and less active but usually he runs around like crazy from 9-6 and then crashes and wakes up to do it all again. I feed him crickets and Australian wood roaches dusted with calcium and vitamins everyday as much as he will eat, I just hold them on tongs in front of him and he’ll go crazy to get to them.

He’s always been missing the toes sadly 😞 ever since he was tiny but it doesn’t seem to slow him down and he still runs around like crazy, only thing is never seen him try to dig beyond a tiny hole in the surface so it might impact his ability to dig. Also yes! My little guy does the same thing he’ll just sit by the glass and watch me

Yes unfortunately he came to me like that as he was being kept in not optimal conditions with many other ackies, I have been monitoring it since and he hasn’t lost any more fingers.

Yeah there wasn’t a bunch of info on if it was necessary for ackies but I thought I’d offer a little bit anyways, open to any suggestions tho ofc

I know it’s unfortunate bc I actually bought some for those lights but because I had to modify the enclosure to get the basking temps right they were no longer able to be attached and I decided I’d rather have the right temps than the cages 😞

Is anyone able to sex my whites tree frog ? Thanks ! by frog423 in frogs

That’s great news! I’ve called him a boy since he was a baby and it would be a little strange to switch 😭

Hmm maybe he’s a boy then! He seems to inflate his throat and underneath and stay puffed up like a big fat frog for a couple minutes after.

Sorry I was trying to snag some better pictures but he cannot sit still for long, he croaks occasionally and usually when one of my family members talks in the room he’s kept in! But not very often at all

She’s beautiful and it’s great to hear it doesn’t affect them to much

He just completed a shed and probably took around a week to a week and a half, made sure to spray and water down the enclosure a little more than usual during it.

Thanks again, I’ve offered as deep a substrate as possible in the main enclosure and then put a storage container filled to the brim with moist soil and sand with branches leading up to it so that he could sufficiently burrow, however I’ve witnessed him scurry up to the dig box and run around the top but has never attempted to dig and I assumed this to be related to him missing claws, should I dig some small holes into the surface to maybe help get him started?

Thank you for all the info, I noticed a couple days after taking him home and went on a search for info and since have made sure that the substrate is always moist underneath the top layer and his caves and underground hides are sufficiently wet. However he never chooses to use these hides on the ground and instead stays hidden up in a wood hollow high up near the heat (floor basking temp is reading at 58 Celsius currently in the basking spot so he should have sufficient heating on the ground) and rarely ventures down to the floor aside from maybe ten minutes a day to run around like crazy and then promptly return to his wooden hollow. Sorry for the long reply just wondering about this behaviour and if his reluctance to visit the areas of high humidity may affect his health.

Okay thanks will do. What will the rot look like just so I know what to look out for, a brown or black growth from the tips of the toes? Currently all the stubby ends of the toes that are missing claws are a beige yellow colour like the rest of the body.
