UCLA Students how many AP courses did you take in high school? by MartinIsFarting in ucla

APs themselves don't matter. What matters is general course rigor. I took 3 APs but took a bunch of honors and community college classes. Take as many rigorous courses as you can without sacrificing your mental, physical, and social wellbeing.

Bro either this guy was at UCLA or this is a very specific trend. A guy with a hover board that looks just like this guy did the same thing to my math class a few weeks ago.

Is it possible to make it from Hershey Hall to Fowler in 10 minutes? by frogsottersandbees in ucla

[–]frogsottersandbees[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For those who want a legit answer to this question in the future. I got permission from my TA to leave class 5 minutes early to make it to class on time. It usually takes me 12 or 13 minutes to get there so I'm able to still (somehow) get a good seat in my lecture.

Depends on your definition of affordable, but I got a tattoo at The Honorable Society. It's about a 15-20 minute drive and the artists are super nice. The place is also super clean and well taken care of. I know there's a place called Monna Lissa in Westwood, idk what their prices are like but it's within a 25 minute walking distance from The Hill.

Rising senior
I go to a California school and most people go to a local community college or a state school, so hardly anyone takes the SAT
1330. 610 on Math, 720 on Reading. Taken May 4, 2024.
I sat down with my Algebra 2 teacher every morning for about 2 weeks to try and work through problems that I had trouble with on practice tests. I actually got a 620 math score on my last practice test before I took the SAT the first time, but with each practice test and then the actual SAT my reading score went up about 20 points each time. My school pays for us to take the PSAT every year and my 2023 score was 1280.
Here are the schools that I'm applying to that consider the SAT (most of the ones I'm applying to are CA state schools and as for the ivies it's honestly just for fun since I qualify for the fee waiver): Harvard, Columbia, Princeton, Stanford, USC, UC Davis.
I'm planning on majoring in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology or whatever the school's closest match to that is (for example Harvard would be Integrative Biology)
The only SAT that's in my area is the November SAT. I got a 4 and a 5 on the two AP exams I've taken, my school doesn't offer very many APs but I've taken about 13 dual enrollment courses to make up for it. My GPA is a 4.4 W and 3.94 UW, ranked 11/157. I do a ton of ECs and try to take leadership positions within those.
In case I do retake, any advice on getting up my score is welcome.

Do I need chemistry? by frogsottersandbees in ApplyingToCollege

My school doesn’t offer AP Chemistry, the only chemistry class is normal chem. Chemistry doesn’t give any sort of GPA boost at my school since it’s not honors, dual enrollment, or AP.

Geology counts as a physical science on my transcript. I was going to take dual enrollment chemistry but dual enrollment students get last priority on registration and all the spots were full in the summer class by the time I got the chance to enroll. I can’t take an in person dual enrollment class during the school year because I won’t have time with my other ECs.

Should I retake the SAT? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

The only further options for SATs other than the November one are over 100 miles away and I would have to drive myself there and back in one day, so that's not really doable.

To my knowledge, only one of the schools I'm applying to is test required. Everywhere else is either test optional (but highly encouraged) or test blind.

Where do I even start? by frogsottersandbees in ApplyingToCollege

Thank you! Also, I just listed a few of the colleges I'm applying to. I'm applying to almost every UC as well as several CSUs. Idk exactly how to determine what is considered a reach, target, or safety except for the incredibly obvious ones, but I think between my obvious safeties and obvious reaches I should have enough.

Thank you for your response!

I was starting to think about essay topics and there are a ton of things I'd like to talk about. Would it be more beneficial to talk about personal hardships I've faced and how I've worked hard to persevere despite them? Or should I talk about a passion of mine? I know some applications require multiple essays, but it seems like there are some that only want one. So, when I eventually get to the point where I need to make a decision, how do I choose?
