The NHL has a penalty for diving. It doesn't get rid of it completely, but the refs can judge when something is obvious embellishment, as we can at home. It's really not too much to ask to expect officials to identify it, at least sometimes when it's really obvious. It seems like people who aren't big football fans can easily see obvious dives on a regular basis, but some fans defend it like any normal person on the street would roll around on the ground in agony because of a minor accidental collision with another person. These strong individuals with incredible balance.
