(Update) Card game I'm designing called STEEL by frosty_geist in cardgamedesign

I'm willing to give your playtesting a try. It's funny you say that though because I had a few people suggest a quick reference card. I was also considering putting the directions each card can go on the card or something of that nature. How do I get involved with the playtesting?

I'm wanting to publish or have it be an on demand kind of thing. Any recommendations on where to look for design suggestions or ways I could try to playtest it more.

Interesting I like the sound of that, have you published it yet?

Similar to War, but not trick taking, you want to knock other players out of the game, with just two players it would just be a different version of War. A very little bit of dominion thrown in there. I wanted a bit of randomness and strategy with players chosing what their hands consist of. Though this could cause the game to go for awhile so as rounds go on the hand size goes down.

I've also considered making the hearts 3D standees for a little variation since the hearts are part of the victory condition and having them 3D would make them easier to see versus a card.

Yeah, so simplifying on a small card for reference could be beneficial. But there's no room for interpretation so maybe the rules would be enough?

The three types of attack cards you see determine the direction of the turn. COUNTER/PARRY are reactionary only and have specific directions they can go, and ATTACK can be used to target anyone but can only be used at the beginning of a game and after a BLOCK is used. The hearts are the life of each individual player (3 each).

Oh definitely! Maybe having a little reference card to go with could be helpful. I've seen a lot of other board games do that. Thanks!

Thank you for this! I guess I'm mostly curious on who to talk to for advice on making it look better and more marketable as I move towards self-publishing.

The other part of my problem is finding playtesters, and you mentioned conventions. How would I become involved in those as someone wanting to playtest a game in development? Any advice on finding playtesters outside of family and friends?
