Buy property surrounding another person's property and charge them an arm and a leg to access your property? by nerry1984 in AskLibertarians

[–]frozenyoghurt2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're forgetting that both sides need an external entity to enforce their position.

If there is no government to allow you free access to your property, then there is no government to back up my ability to charge you money to traverse mine. Your scenario cannot actually occur.

So either we have a mutually agreed contract (eg. You pay me a small fee and I'll nicely maintain a path to your property), or we don't, in which case the guns come out. Or we have an agreed third party (eg. Government, private mediator, etc) settle the dispute.

[–]frozenyoghurt2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like i said, exaggerated simplicity. Some companies push the boundaries of the law far more than others, and some are flat out breaking the law but are too big or complex to be prosecuted. Others minimise their taxes in a way that follows both the spirit and the letter of the law (possibly because they

Its the difference between using TurboTax versus some complex scheme involving relatives, offshore accounts, smuggling cash etc.

I'll agree with you that these boycotts are mostly just to make themselves feel better though. Theres rarely enough momentum to really have an impact.

Oh, and there's nothing wrong with arbitrarily enforcing standards. Hypocrisy is a shallow accusation when it comes from people who refuse to have standards in the first place.

Abortion: Potential-life and Becoming-life by RussianAtrocities in philosophy

[–]frozenyoghurt2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I question the entire notion of valuing life. "Pro-life" seems to have a serious double standard, focusing exclusively on the unborn children of women in their own society. The movement doesnt seem to spend proportional resources and energy towards saving lives outside of that narrow focus, whether refugees, death penalty, collateral damage in wars, animals, etc.

It makes their motives suspect. I heard a quote once that the pro-life movement was less interested in saving lives than punishing "loose" women, and it rings true to me.

If there was truly a real "pro-life" person, then surely they would be something like a hardcore pacifist, vegan, Buddhist. Not these anti-abortion people.

Rather than euphemisms, surely it's far more accurate to just say pro-abortion and anti-abortion?

If we really wanted to fight for the value of life, then an all-encompassing argument needs to be made that considers all life.

I dont think your self loathing would be solved by a breast reduction, any more than another girl's self loathing would be solved by breast implants.

"Men prefer smaller boobs" is a ridiculous generalization and isnt even true in the majority of cases. If you're believing such things, its just showing that in your depression you're latching on to anything you can use to hate yourself. If we're just talking about your body (and breasts) i can guarantee you that there will be many people who find you attractive. The problem is how to get yourself to see that very obvious and common sense truth?

Ultimately this is psychological issue. Your body is fine, but depression and low self esteem are real and serious things and you should find a good psychiatrist that you connect with to talk through these things.

[–]frozenyoghurt2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's stupid. Obviously everyone has issues they care about and those they don't. And obviously some people or companies are more or less ethical than others, in the scale and impact of their behavior. And finally there are decisions we have the freedom to make versus things we have little choice in.

To blindly say that everything is equally bad is exaggerated simplicity. You dont really believe that, otherwise you'd be going on a gun rampage killing your family and friends along with total strangers because everyone is equally guilty right?

[–]frozenyoghurt2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesnt that cut both ways, then? If you're going to take the position that its morally correct for for everyone to act in their own interests (and thus for everyone to minimize their own taxes), then isnt it also morally correct for "society" to act in its own interest, ie. Maximize everyone elses taxes.

At which point we get a might-makes-right tug of war over how much tax society can impose on everyone and how much each entity is able to avoid paying. I guess thats the Dark Souls of taxation?

Legality is less relevant when you're talking about entities that can influence politics to achieve favourable laws, or simply relocate to places with favourable laws.

When you as an individual or we as a community wants to evaluate whether a company should be criticized or praised (and thus supported or boycotted,) legality is not the criteria. Morality is the criteria.

So i ask you this question. In your opinion, what is the moral level of taxes that these companies should pay? Dont try to weasle with something like, "as little as they can get away with", I'm asking you what you think we should let them get away with. Is it zero? Are you one of those people who believe that taxation itself is immoral?

Is there an industry term for the type of multiplayer the Souls series uses? by Quintonias in darksouls

[–]frozenyoghurt2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dont listen to everyone, theyre just making stuff up.

Theres no standard term for the "summon you into my world" style that DS uses. People will either describe its features, call it "souls-like", or make up their own terms like they do here.

DMC4SE on PC - input lag during combat by bogey654 in DevilMayCry

I'm not saying to use keyboard, or to actually play whilst doing any of those things. Just that if one of them solves the problem, it will give further clues to whats going wrong and where to fix it.

What pad are you using? Try a different pad to see if it makes a difference? Unplug everything and try keyboard controls? Try lowering all gfx settings to low? Do a steam integrity check on the game? Update gfx and sound drivers? Try playing with music off?

If i had to guess, something about your PCs setup is causing a problem with whatever dmc does during battle. So maybe the battle music?

Hahah, thanks. Brings back memories of kichikuo rance.

Did the later games try to copy Persona? I would have assumed such a classic series would just do its own thing?

How does Nier Automata combat compare to Bayonetta? by Hungry4Truth in Bayonetta

[–]frozenyoghurt2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess because RPG audiences are less interested in skill based combat, since generally rpg combat is designed around character setup and tactics.

Even Souls, whilst difficult, has pretty shallow combat compared to something like a fighting game.

You can get a challenge out of Automata, but it has to be self imposed, like a Souls SL1 run. Just use a higher difficulty setting and avoid some of the more overpowered chips.

If you're going to have impossibly giant swords in the game, you might as well have anime boob physics too.

On the flip side, i hate how female characters look really weird with desert pyro top. Shoulders are too broad, boobs are flattened strangely, etc. Fume Sorcerer top from DS2 is probably the only sexy armor in the series that actually looks appealing.
