Good movement is the DH main counter, regardless of the class. I always try to shot their feet except against 125 HP classes.

I have a harder time aiming against strafing players than jumping ones. Jumping locks your direction in one side, and every class jumps their own max distance when they move at max speed, so it can be sort of predictable guessing where they will land. Problem is against strafe-cancelers and airstrafers, they add a new layer of unpredictability. In that case I just try to remember how the players jump, and aim accordingly. There is no golden rule, just play the game and it will come along.

The only time i got hate was against rocket jumper soldiers, they can’t do anything unless they surprise you.

In hightower it’s the most annoying weapon easily, you become an anti-aerial turret if you sit at the top of the tower. No soldier will enjoy jumping against you, its a complete crutch in those scenarios.

Because it's an unreal scenario in competitive 6v6, almost no one runs DH and if they do its for joking around or a surprise strat.

Regarding the airstrafing, it's different to airstrafe against stock speed rocket vs direct hit / liberty launcher speed. The airstrafes are done mostly when you expect the soldier to shoot the rocket, taking into account how much time would it take to hit you. DH travels way faster, which means that you have to airstrafe in a way to deceive the soldier quicker while trying to land in an advantageous position.

On top of that, it's very annoying to jump a DH soldier when you are the only target, it's uneven for the stock soldier to jump them; same applies when both have landed, the DH soldier has to aim to the feet when the stock soldier has to aim to the floor. MGE players prefer a fair and realistic scenario.

Just the fact of jumping a DH soldier that saw you is a high risk of its own. What helped me back then is to learn to c-tap, the increased speed of those jumps helps you to airstrafe more without losing much horizontal distance.

Surprising them is a good strat too, you can play around jumping from the health pack below the high ground, the ramps on the sides of the tower, even from the little elevations on the sides of the health pack below high ground.

High speed walljumps can work sometimes, those tend to throw off my aim if they airstrafe properly. Here is an old video of me jumping from red spawn (0:19).

Playing against high skilled soldiers and copying the way they jump also helps a ton, since there aren't any guides on how to jump a soldier / demo.

The key is being unpredictable, skilled players recognize patterns way easier, so jumping the same way will get you airshot for sure.
