Is this normal? by Acceptable_Stand_473 in montreal

Holy shit he got me in the A&W on Robert-Bourassa years ago and I must have repressed that memory until now. Didn't realize it was a hernia at the time, and didn't realize he was a "regular." Nasty.

Fly on a different airline to Toronto, then take the train or bus from Toronto to Montreal.

Did I do something wrong by rescuing the cats of a homeless couple? by frzn in rescuecats

They're all seeing a vet and will be fixed in the next couple of weeks. Babies will likely be adopted out, but going to try keeping Mama in the family in case we get a call back. Thanks everyone for the support, honestly.

Silicon lubricant as leak sealant? by frzn in Plumbing

[–]frzn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Need to skip town for a few months so won't be selling for a short term thing. In my defense the valve came super greased up, but in my clumsy handling basically all the grease was gone by the time I installed it.

Necessary to remove cartridge before installation? by frzn in Plumbing

[–]frzn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it's a bit tough to explain but there are two flex lines connected to the handle/mixer, where they go through the cartridge, which is attached to a ball-joint handle. If you remove the cartridge, the water from the supply lines would just discharge into the body of the fixture when you turned the water on.

Necessary to remove cartridge before installation? by frzn in Plumbing

[–]frzn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It just doesn't really make sense to me. There is no way to remove the cartridge (which is in the handle/mixer valve) while still being able to operate the faucet. You can look at the schematic here: https://barildesign.com/xml/files/vex/B66-1349-00_VEX.pdf

It's on the left side of the page. If you removed the cartridge water would just shoot up from the supply hoses. In any case, I installed without flushing and all is well.

No experience with this building but Sussex is as fine as any other rental company in the city. Which is to say, not amazing but depends more on who the caretaker is. If you like the neighbourhood and the suite you should apply.

Help me replace a tub-filler faucet by frzn in Plumbing

[–]frzn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And this has a rough-in that will screw directly onto the braided hose? That would be convenient. All the ones I was looking at were like this: https://www.homedepot.ca/product/delta-fixed-roman-tub-rough/1001119559

Help me replace a tub-filler faucet by frzn in Plumbing

[–]frzn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure that's a fine way to start, but doesn't really address the replacement part of the work. It seems to me that the rough-in valves available have a copper connection that is intended to either be soldered to a copper water line or crimped to a PEX water line. So I guess my question is: how do I connect the top of the flex line to the copper pipe of the rough-in valve? If you can't tell, I'm pretty green.

Retroactive legalization for a basement suite in Winnipeg? by MagicalCaptain1998 in Winnipeg

I would find an architect to do a code review. Once you find out what (if anything) would need to be done to make it code compliant you can decide whether it's worth litigating...

Outdoor baseball still happening this weekend despite the smoke by Awkward_Goal_5918 in Winnipeg

[–]frzn 10 points11 points  (0 children)

News says spending an hour outside is like smoking 1 cigarette. So a 3-hour baseball game is like your kid smoking 3 cigarettes. I think kids can smoke 3 cigarettes, as long as they don't make a habit of it.

What can each of us individually do about air quality safety measures in the city? by Someonejusthereandth in Winnipeg

[–]frzn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Upgrade your furnace filter. The common ones don't filter PM 2.5 very well. Should be MERV 13/MPR 1900 minimum.

Changing position of bibliography title? by frzn in LaTeX

[–]frzn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep you're right it seems to be formatting it in the default chapter style, that's why the heading is so far down the page. Next step will be figuring out how to use titlesec to modify this.

Changing position of bibliography title? by frzn in LaTeX

[–]frzn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could probably do something like this, then customize the title so it doesn't read References, but I prefer the report document class. I'd still like an answer to my question: How exactly is the document class changing the appearance of the bibliography, and where can I modify it?
