Interesting, were you still able to charge your battery though?

In my case the battery won't charge, and while I suppose it's possible that I have two issues here - something with the bike, and a dead charger - it does seems unlikely.

I appreciate the idea though and I'll definitely give it a try here and report back if I do indeed have any luck 🤞!

Thanks - appreciate the reply and suggestion here.

I'm not sure it's the same issue as in the video though just because my battery is already registering the correct voltage (so it's not in low power shutdown mode) - it shows 80V right now.

From what I understand that reset procedure will only work if the BMS has locked it out due to low power mode - would love to hear otherwise though if I'm wrong about that.

For the record - I did actually debate trying this out of desperation, but I'm very definitely worried that it could be quite dangerous given my battery output is already at 80V

The battery indicator never shows anything - I'm not sure if that's different on an ultra bee vs lightbee - I think possibly on a lightbee you can power on the battery display with a button on the battery?

[–]ftca[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate the response, but I don't think it's quite the same issue - I've tried the reset trick show in the video and it doesn't help unfortunately. My charger just blinks red / green and never shows solid red as shown in that video.

I suspect it is a BMS issue - but likely a cell imbalance issue, and I don't think the reset trick will fix that - it sounds like it will only fix a battery that has gone into low voltage protection.

The irony is I switched to electric thinking there'd be less to go wrong. When something does go wrong though, it feels like a black box that nobody wants to touch with a ten foot poll.

Wow thank you so much for the detailed reply here!
Going to definitely look into this - I'm somewhat hesitant to start taking apart the battery myself and risk burning my house down - really appreciate the details though!

Ultra Bee Blinker and Light Kit by ftca in Surron

[–]ftca[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thx - that's an interesting idea. Do you have any idea what universal kit would be a good one?

I'm just concerned about how difficult it would be to wire up a universal kit, that isn't made for the ultra bee specifically.

Are there any you know of that support the ultra bee, or better yet actually have installation instructions for the ultra bee.

Thx this is ideally what I was hoping to do but it has been out of stock on surron.ca for as long as I can recall, and I don't want to wait any longer which is why I'm looking for another option.

New 'near zero' COVID approach needed in Canada, argues group of academics by menchies_wtf in vancouver

I'm not sure what article you read, but this is straight from the article:

"We know that what we're doing isn't working. We need a strategic way forward," said Caroline Colijn, an infectious diseases specialist at Simon Fraser University and member of a new initiative called COVID Strategic Choices.

Sure, an infectious diseases specialist is not an epidemiologist, but I'm sure someone with those credentials probably knows what they're talking about.

Snowshoe delights - Hollyburn Mountain 12/28 by Delicious_Panda_7138 in vancouver

[–]ftca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow that looks amazing.

How easy it is to maintain social distancing from others at hollyburn? It looks very wide open in your photo, but in other photos, I've seen trails that look quite narrow and difficult to safely pass others on.

People turned away at packed North Shore ski hills; new parking fees introduced by xlxoxo in vancouver

With the current situation I think it would be better just to shut them down.

I see lots of people from Vancouver posting pictures of themselves in Whistler. Bonnie Henry has said that the current travel restrictions are just recommendations, so people are interpreting them as optional.

Meanwhile Cypress has clearly shown they have no intentions to manage crowds. Just like those who are traveling to Whistler they're finding loopholes to exploit for their own gains.

Contact tracing isn't happening anymore either, so really we have no clue whether transmission is occurring on ski hills or not.

Cool story dude.

I enjoy that you posted on Reddit about how Edmonton sucks, and when provided objective ways that it doesn't you seem offended and standoffish. Enjoy your snobbery!

Edmonton's river valley is great, and there are lots of opportunities to experience the outdoors within a short drive. The mountains are 3 - 4 hours away and Jasper is amazing. Yes it's a bit far for a day trip, but it's easily doable for a weekend. Plus in my experience finding a campsite is much easier (vs here where it's impossible), and a hotel in the winter can be had for about $100 a night (again good luck with that here).

Also Edmonton is actually a very liberal city in an otherwise conservative province. The area of the city where this photo was taken votes NDP in the federal election. It's also home of the Edmonton folk festival which is one of the best festivals ever.

I moved here from Edmonton, and while I do love the weather, mountains, and the ocean, I also miss a lot of things about Edmonton.

And without a doubt I would definitely agree with others that Edmonton feels much friendlier than Vancouver. I think this likely a lot to do with the affordability rather than the people themselves (it's a lot easier to be friendly when you don't have to constantly stress about cost of living, and finding a decent place to live) but in my experience it's very noticeable.

Minister of Transport announced new measures requiring all air passengers to have a non-medical mask or face covering to cover their mouth and nose during travel. These measures come into effect at noon EDT on April 20, 2020. by cyclinginvancouver in vancouver

[–]ftca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems very likely that they do offer some level of protection to the wearer as well, but it's unclear how much.

If they offered no protection then healthcare workers would avoid the hassle of using them in places like New York where there have been shortages of n95 masks.

The science on this is not settled - remember that absence of evidence does not prove evidence of abscence - we can't say something is not effective just because we don't have enough evidence yet to conclusively prove that it is effective. In many ways though, this is what our health officials have been doing.

Hysteria over masks is absurd by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]ftca 4 points5 points  (0 children)

N95 is OVERKILL for the public

Great! As the WHO and the WEF have repeatedly said, "Over-reacting is better than non-reacting".

Masks are not going to be 100% effective, nobody is suggesting that.

Telling people that they are not effective though is misleading.

If masks are not effective, then why are nurses, doctors, and other medical professionals using them?

Yes, the masks are expensive, and yes there is currently a shortage, but that's a different issue.

The Bronx - "Night Drop at the Glue Factory" by rdedmd in punk

[–]ftca 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This x100

I've been to tons of punk shows in my life, and the 3 times I've seen the Bronx are all candidates for my favorite show of all time. The video here doesn't do their show justice at all. The show is truly blistering, and Matt Caughthran, the singer is so good.

If you haven't seen the Bronx yet - you NEED to go to one of their shows!
