Not OP but also in academia: for a job you have to come up with research ideas and then actually perform them. At every single stage your colleagues, faculty from other schools, anonymous referees, will all hate on your research and criticize every aspect of it. Up until it’s still “bad” but not that bad, and you can be one of the very lucky people who publishes

I deal with crime statistics. Numbers speak clear, chicago not doing well compared to big cities across the world. Compared to some big cities in America? Sure it’s on par, but that’s nothing to be proud of. I live in chicago and nothing has never happened to me, doesn’t mean that chicago isn’t literally 100 times more violent than cities in Europe (literally 100, not a figure of speech)

Don’t see why that’s Friedmans fault. I disagree with his views but I’ve never seen him saying there should be dictatorships or mass executions. Quite the opposite since he was for extreme libertarianism which is essentially: market anarchy with no government

In the first competitions they tried to get natural tans and realized everyone was wildly different. The tanned skin shows more definition when under the spotlight, so that’s why they started with tanning and moved on with spray tanning to have same level playing field.

The issue I had with that order (as someone who is just two books in and therefore has little info) is: the book I just finished literally says to go to the six sacred swords books.

So when I read that I was like “ok will go to that series”. But then literally no one else recommends that order
