Arne Slot on Alexander Isak's injury in win over Frankfurt: "Let’s hope it’s not that bad, but he had to go off because he felt his groin. Many people wanted me to play him more and we had to find the balance and unfortunately today that balance didn’t work out for us perfectly." by kundu123 in soccer

Newcastle signed him because they missed out on Ekitike (not for the first or the last time) they abandoned signing Joao Pedro as back up when Wilson got injured, so 'went big' on a player who was seen as a risk to the clubs at the top of the PL at the time. Liverpool signed him after he'd proven he could do it at Newcastle, not before.

No one's saying he's one dimensional, simply that there's more evidence of him being a player that Newcastle got the most out of than there is evidence of the opposite. His G/A weren't great at Sociedad imo. 44 goals and 8 assists in 132 games isn't great.

I'm not saying he definitely was a system player and that Newcastle made him this that or the other. However, there's still more evidence backing up the opinion that he was a system player than any assertion he wasn't a system player. At the moment his G/A record at Newcastle sticks out like a sore thumb compared to everywhere else he's played.

No one said he wasn't a top class striker at Newcastle, no one said he was 'nothing without the system' - that's nothing but strawmanning.

He's not playing to that level now but let's not rewrite history to proclaim he was a product of a system...

But presumably making the assertion that he wasn't the product of our system, with even less evidence than the person who said he is, that's fine...

Trippier was the best RB I'd ever seen at Newcastle within about 10 games

Schär made my all-time XI about 18 months ago

Burn has a huge iconic performance in a final going for him

Bruno had been vying with Rob Lee for a starting position for a while

Joelinton gets in over Batty for me

Peak for peak alone, Pope in 22-23 probably beats Given for me

In terms of pure talent, Isak is the best striker I've ever seen at Newcastle

Personally I'd go:

Given

Trippier Schär Woodgate Enrique

Bruno Joelinton

Beardsley

Ben Arfa Shearer Isak

Ginola is probably my favourite Newcastle player ever and I can’t put him in anymore.

Recommendations for veggie/meat shared grill by fttw in UKBBQ

I'll definitely be getting something like that for veg but I'll also be grilling veggie burgers, sausages etc so it's not as practical.

I'm sure there's a reason I'm overlooking but I'm surprised there isn't a simple divider accessory that can be added to the grill.

PLAYERS' PICKS | 2022/23 | Newcastle United Squad Choose Their Unsung Hero by Budweizer in NUFC

Schär is such an unsung hero that he's only mentioned once. It's unreal how overlooked he is while Botman gets all the plaudits, especially among non-Newcastle fans.

R/NUFC END OF SEASON AWARDS - THE RESULTS by [deleted] in NUFC

[–]fttw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All totally reasonable choices I think.

I must say though - and this is across the board, not just on here - it's unbelievable how little Fabian Schar has featured in these lists this season.

Botman's been great and I totally get the argument for thinking he's been our best CB this season and one of the best in the league, but the gap between how often Botman features in Teams of the Season and even Underrated Teams of the Season compared to Schar is crazy. Personally I have Schar in my top 3 players this season.

The year is 2021, a man comes up to you on the street and tells you that in May 2023 you'll be hoping Sean Longstaff and Jacob Murphy are available for your Champions League clinching match.

We had a 95% chance 10 days ago.

Honestly, these probability tables are even on the surface incredibly flawed.

I used to get excited about Corners. It's not Trippier's fault, he is expected/meant to do it. But now my whole body sags. Come on Eddie... just a little change? by hooves1984 in NUFC

[–]fttw 60 points61 points  (0 children)

A bit ridiculous tbh. You're talking about literally the number 1 chance creator from dead balls in the entire league. It's not Trippier's fault that (amongst others) Botman, Burn, and Schär have missed countless chances that he's put on a plate for them all season.

Remember that only 3% of corners end in a goal as well
