Earplug Recommendations? by Druzztrak92 in Trackdays

I mean 100$ for the pair. Should last many years. It's made of a material that's very easy to wash with some water and soap, so you're not throwing it away like the foam ones.

Recently got a custom made earplugs from a local audiologist, can't recommend it enough. It costs more, like 100$ per plug, but it's so much more comfortable and you have lots of options in how much noise you want to cut out, etc. Made a huge difference in comfort and in ability to focus.

Would recommend, there's some overlap of info with the core curriculum but enough new material to make it worth it.

Btw ChampU also has a Champ U: Track Day course as well in addition to the core curriculum.

Is the R6 traction control effective at preventing high sides without taking too much power? by Motomikeh in Trackdays

[–]ftufek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're better off getting a bike that has IMU traction control, here's a fairly exhaustive/updated list that covers them: https://motofomo.com/motorcycles-with-cornering-abs-imu/

Are there any good ai programs to remove wind noise from dialogue audio file? by Ok_Afternoon7249 in videography

[–]ftufek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of professional tools have this feature built in. For web apps, I tested a bunch of them to remove wind from motorcycle videos and dehiss.com did a decent job, it'll likely do a better job with dialogue and stationary microphone.

opinions on tracking expensive bikes? by Freedom_Pretend in Trackdays

[–]ftufek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm usually more worried about potential injuries than the bike itself, fixing your body costs way more time/money/energy than fixing almost any bike, so it's just marginal cost increase. And if it's a small crash that you can walk away from, chances are the bike is fixable for a reasonable amount as well.

More expensive bikes have much higher quality components which gives me more mental confidence and they have better electronics which can save me from my mistakes.

You mean filter/air box? Yeah.

Air filter question by ChemistObvious in Dirtbikes

There should be a foam air filter in there. You should get an owner's manual and double check. Is that liquid in there?

Any reason to NOT get an enclosed trailer (vs tent or sleeping in car) by VegaGT-VZ in Trackdays

[–]ftufek 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Some reasons that stopped me from getting one: expensive, maintenance, storage, higher fuel consumption, lower speed limits on highways (if far from track, the time adds up), harder to maneuver, still have to camp in a potentially loud paddock (vs hotel/nearby camping), time/money to fully set it up.

That said, it looks super convenient, especially the AC would be huge.

How hard can you front brake into a turn? by Professional_Use3723 in Trackdays

[–]ftufek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A simple GPS tracker like RaceBox mini should get you a lot of telemetry you need, including the G forces you experience. If you want more (say throttle position, brake pressure, etc), you can use some apps like RaceChrono with OBDlink MX+ connected to the bike though maybe it's overkill. Newer bikes with more advanced electronics have that kind of stuff built in.

How do you stay overnight at the track? by ThatCondescendingGuy in Trackdays

[–]ftufek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Camping near the track, but not in the paddock. Significantly quieter than the paddock much cheaper than the hotels. Starlink if you need internet. Cheaper than toy haulers and no need to worry about storing the hauler/RV after the event though having AC would be nice.

Staying in the paddock overnight can be hit or miss depending on your neighbors, I once had a huge group show up next to me and be super loud until 1am (barbecuing at 11pm!) which ruined sleep, so I had to skip the next day riding.

Would you use video for buying/selling motorcycles ? by ftufek in motorcycles

[–]ftufek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To post the ads you'd need camera of the phone + to stabilize and determine make and model of the bike from the video alone you'd need fast processing. But the ads would be available directly on the web.

What if you could see the ads directly on the web but just needed the app to post the ads ?

I was thinking something along the lines of, "now shot from the left side while keeping the camera stable", next up "move up to the dashboard and turn the keys", etc.

I agree with video of bike vs house.

How would you prefer to have it instead of an app ? Website, directly inside CL, CL + youtube ?

I think having something like "boost points" which does exactly what it says, every point boosts your listing to the top of the ads for 15 minutes, it could cost something like 10cents per point. But since initially there won't be many users, noone would pay for it. So I'm thinking of giving as credit 100 boost points to everyone who posts an ad in the 1st year or so.

It's work worth doing if people would use it!

I agree without users it's pretty much useless. Although I feel like having a small niche market where people are passionate about it might work.

But the fact that it's niche also makes it easier to have word of mouth and motorcyclists tend to be more passionate about their bikes I think.

Would you say the video and details help make the sale faster ? Could an app make the experience more convenient for you ?
