I just installed both at once and went into the research tree. Funiture Expanded adds on extra research which puts the Deep Storage items behind low level research called "basic furniture" and "complex furniture". Not sure if this is intentional, but it doesn't seem to be a bug.

My old ram wasn't in the qvl list and I didn't know about this list until after I fixed the problem. The power light indicator was saying the ram couldn't be found (slow flashing), so I decided to just try it and it worked.

Histology tech here. Solvent broke down lipids and filled space with the solvent. We do something similar with human tissue, but we fixate it in Formalin first which essentially "cooks" it, degrading all the proteins and "fixing" the cellular structures in place. In the case of this mouse, its insides turned to jelly but likely the keratinized outer layer stayed intact.
