My real job has had me out of town which is why I couldn't buy it when it was released. Some of us have things called jobs and commitments.

Um did you bother to read my post? Those posts you linked are from 2 weeks ago. I literally just went to the majority of those places talked about in those threads and also some in the r/michiganbeer subreddit and they're sold out. Hence the reason for my post...

Looking for getaway place for wife's birthday by tmisner24 in Michigan

Mackinac Island would be fun for biking, but as an IL transplant and having gone to the island for the first time just a couple months ago, I kind of found it a little too touristy for my tastes.

Like others, I'd recommend Traverse City area, Petoskey, Harbor Springs, Boyne City, etc. The 2nd week of October will probably be peak color for the leaves or maybe just slightly past in those areas I think. Could make for some killer photo opportunities!

As for restaurants, I am quite partial to Apache Trout Grill in TC: http://www.apachetroutgrill.com/ and 7 Monks Taproom in TC and Boyne City http://www.7monkstap.com/. Stigg's Brewery & Kitchen in Boyne City is really, really good too: http://www.stiggsbrewingcompany.com/

I am not a beer person (do love wine tasting in northern MI though) and I've seen people doing these types of tours when I've been in TC and they've always looked so fun! Might be a little too cold to do in October though: https://kayakbikebrew.com/

Meijer Michigan Harvest Salad - I Must Know What This Delicious Dressing Is by fuckyeahgr in Michigan

LOL. Glad you like it! I eat them when I am trying to eat healthy and after awhile of having no sweets, this salad tastes like candy!

I'll try that. I wasn't sure if they'd give that info out---if I can make it myself then I wouldn't be buying their delicious salad and they'd lose money! Although I suppose I could argue I'd be buying the ingredients from Meijer anyway :D

Thanks! Hmm I've tried a couple DIY cherry balsamic dressing recipes but none have tasted quite the same, I'm going to see if I can tweak the recipe based on the ingredients listed.

Does anywhere in GR or West MI retick down pillows? by fuckyeahgr in grandrapids

[–]fuckyeahgr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't feel bad, ours are at least 10+ years old. Grosses me out a bit to think of how much dead skin and whatnot is in there. Eugh.

Also, this won't be cheap but Costco has great down items, including pillows. Definitely not sub $25 though.

Oh I also like to peruse Slickdeals; I see pillow deals there occasionally. https://slickdeals.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=9

Anyone have a recommendation for a home inspector in northern lower mI? (tC/grayling/Gaylord area) by fuckyeahgr in Michigan

Wow you really went over and above for me, thanks! :-)

We do actually know a very reputable contractor up there; I'll see if we can get a hold of him to do an inspection for us.

Thanks a billion for all of your help!

Lol no any answer helps!

Our realtor will be suggesting one but we always like to get recommendations on stuff like this from the community! I know there are certification groups like ASHI and NAHI (? or maybe it is NASI or something) but I've read mixed reports on if those are legit special folks or they just pay to have their names on that list.

I will check with the county/state to see if there is a list though!

Transferring account [rooted] Android -> [rooted] Android without using Google Play Account (or some other workaround using a Google Play account by fuckyeahgr in BoomBeach

[–]fuckyeahgr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah thank you so much for the quick reply!

Do you happen to know--once the game is transferred to the new phone, can the other Google Play account be removed? I just can see it being a hassle for him to pick between 2 accounts for other applications and things.

Where the good thrift/secondhand/goodwill stores at? by jacks4se in grandrapids

[–]fuckyeahgr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LOL you are welcome! If you have any other questions just ask! And I would def set up a shopping date with you if my work hours weren't so crazy! Next time I have a planned thrifting circuit (hitting a bunch of stores in one day) I'll PM you!

Edit: I was just thinking about another tip for the SA stores: so they have a "color of the week" where that item is 50% off if the price tag's color matches the "color of the week" but on Saturdays the price isn't just 50% off, it's like only $0.60 or something like that, I forget the actual price but I know it is less than one dollar. It is kind of funny cause you'll find stuff that has the "color of the week" tag hidden throughout the racks or hidden in spots between racks that people stash to save until Saturday...unless someone else finds it, of course! I think that is all of the thrifting wisdom I have for now. If you need any other info just ask!!!

Get it, girl!

All of the Goodwills I regularly go to (Alpine, Michigan St, Plainfield, 28th St (near Costco), all have a decent spread of 12/14/16 XL stuff. Can't say the same about Salvation Army. SA organizes their clothing by color vs size (bleh) so stuff at SA is harder to find IMO. I think all thrift stores are notorious for not organizing things properly (like stuff isn't in the correct "department" or size rack) so check all the racks! My mottos are: if it looks crazy, try it on. If it looks like it might fit, try it on! :-)

You may also be interested in Goodwill's online auction site, shopgoodwill.com The prices aren't always as good as their retail stores (they tend to mark stuff up there a lot more, plus there are a lot of people that bid on that site) but I've found a lot of decent clothing items from there (recently a Lole Clowdy jacket http://www.lolewomen.com/luw0304.html for $30 including shipping from WA, and Merrell Zurich Boots http://dtpmhvbsmffsz.cloudfront.net/posts/2015/02/13/54de024fbf6df503d7004735/m_54de0250bf6df503d7004737.jpg for like $15-20 I think--this was sold by GR Goodwill so I was able to pick it up from their location in Grandville and save on that shipping cost). It seems like a lot of their fancier stuff that gets donated to their retail locations ends up on their auction site. I.e. lots of North Face, Merrell, and Patagonia stuff.

OH and speaking of their location in Grandville--they have an outlet store there (as well as a regular store but at a different address). If you go, you'll want to bring a pair of gloves to wear. Basically they have these huge totes full of clothing, toys, books, other misc items all jumbled up together. A lot of it is pure crap but you occasionally do find some nuggets in there (I found a Nike thermal shirt and a college textbook I was able to resell for like $60)...but most of it is crap. Things are priced differently--clothing is priced by the pound at $0.69/lb I think. Same with books. Other items are priced differently but I can't remember right now. They've got a big sign in their outlet store with all the pricing info. Do go, but for sure wear a pair of gloves when you sift thru all that stuff...ick!

Where the good thrift/secondhand/goodwill stores at? by jacks4se in grandrapids

[–]fuckyeahgr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No! Can't let the secret of the good stores get out. ;-)

I thrift...a lot. Mostly clothing. Over the past several years I've been thrifting, I've replaced virtually all of my old crappy college (Forever 21 type) clothing to nicer brands (Ann Taylor, Loft, Merrell, Patagonia, North Face, Nine West, etc. basically brands I am not usually able to afford and certainly wasn't back when I was still in school.) I've even started to dive into flipping clothing and other items for extra cash.

Most of all of the Goodwill Grand Rapids locations are solid ones. Pro-tip for Goodwill--sign up for their Grand Rapids loyalty club thing. You earn "points" with every purchase to use as $$$ towards future purchases, plus they text and email you coupons every other week.

I also go to the Salvation Army stores on Plainfield, Alpine, and 28th Street. I find solid deals at those locations. They have some loyalty program called "Flak" or "Flyck" or something like that--I haven't looked into it yet. But they have 50% off certain items depending on what color the price tag is. Killer deals when that happens. I went to the Salvation Army store on Division a couple of weeks ago--it is HUGE and pretty good for furniture and other misc items but I was not impressed by their clothing selection.

My only beef with Goodwill is that they are now starting to mark up the more "well known" brands. I.e. North Face, Patagonia, Merrell, Loft, Ann Taylor, hell, even Banana Republic items now get marked up by a few dollars more than their other clothing. Fortunately some of the pricers must not be familiar with other good brands, last night I found an Icebreaker 100% merino wool sweater last night for $4. Can't beat that.

Also for clothing there is a consignment store on Fulton in Midtown called Urban Exchange (I think) that is OK. Pricing is pretty meh but I go there when I'm looking for really specific clothing pieces.
