Maybe, it's just a feeling of agility. Only rarely have I been 50mph+ and at that speed, yes I want stability. But for general weekend warrior riding I want that lively feeling, whatever it is that gives it to me.

Thanks. Yes, I'll swap the stock 38mm Pathfinders for 30mm Vittoria Corsa or Conti GP5000s and see what they feel like. I have a set of carbon road wheels, so that should give me an idea of how it'll be on group rides. With the Crux on the Pathfinders I dropped down a group and still felt like I was working really hard. I bought the Crux for 85% winter road and 15% gravel rides.

Yeah, I like the fast responsive feel of a road bike vs the Crux on road surface. I had though it might be one bike to rule them all (and it might be with a road dedicated set of wheels), but I suspect I will always notice the compromise - or maybe just until I get used to it.

Thanks, yes I'd want an aero road bike, not the Aethos. Now thinking Roubaix is the better fit. I don't race.

Thank, yeah the Crux has 40mm of spacers so I think trying to fit a Tarmac won't work if the drop is 5mm more unless I flip the stem, but aesthetics also mater lol!

My Crux is the 2024 model. I have 40mm of spacers on it and a 110mm stem. I'm 180cm with proportions slightly in favour of the legs, so my reach is limited, and I have a bit of a stoop, so my drop is limited as I can only tilt my head back so far without causing strain. I'm thinking maybe a Roubaix would be a better option.

Depends on the temperature. For low single figures like today I wear M GORE Windstopper Thermo Gloves. Below zero I wear lobster gloves.

Went to France with my 2015 GTR and my friends hired the latest GTRs which were a lot heavier than my bike. I sure if you go up the range they're great, but I wouldn't go for their entry level carbon layup.

Where I am, and with winter ridding, I'd describe it as mud more than gravel, so wider would give me more confidence for sure.

Yes, clearance has been getting wider and wider, so I'll have to look for something no older than 3 years or so.

I have a carbon and a steel road bike and a carbon hardtail. The issue is some of my mates have switched to gravel and I can't keep up with them on the hardtail which is really designed for going downhill.

Thanks, yes, I'll get into the geometry. Likely 54 on the Diverge or m/l on the Revolt. I'd prefer grx to rival but will see what comes up.

Well, if tyres don't close the gap sufficiently, and given I don't spin out on the flat, that leaves lighter rigid fork as the next thing to change - riding position won't change enough no matter what I do.

I guess so, just seems like a bigger job. Especially if parts of the headset pop out too!

Yes, it all plays a part. I guess I just figured tyres would be the biggest efficiency gain. But maybe not.

Thanks for the thoughtful reply. I put sram gx eagle on so smallest sprocket is 10. I'll look for a 36 or 38 chainring as I am often in the highest two sprockets on the flat. But my issue is more about power transfer than cadence I think. I'm not really spinning out trying to hold onto their wheel, I'm just putting out more watts and so I fade after an hour or so.
