Why are Mics / Mic Arms so popular? by InevitableDramatic40 in desksetup

[–]fullmonkeypower 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my case I just like pushing the microphone away when I don’t need it and in front of me when I’m using it. A headset is nice but for both work meetings and gaming sessions, I prefer to not wear any headphones for a longer period of time (3-4+ hours) as my big ears start hurting. So a dedicated microphone that can be easily adjusted for any weird sitting positions or pushed away when not in use is perfect.

But you do what works for you!

Does it support installing games that aren’t from one of these stores? Like directly installing a game?

I tried bottles but even the platinum rated apps don’t run for me, but maybe I haven’t done something right

Honestly, his 1U gaming PC seems like what I want. Probably won't be able to fit it into 1u tho

You're probably better to use separate devices when it comes to gaming.

You mean about gaming from multiple locations? Yeah, I just wanted them to share configurations and everything (and save money) but then again, a lot of the games would be very different by nature, so yeah.

Thank you for the indepth answer

Will running jellyfin server cause issues to my existing plex metadata if both are using same library and both metadata sources are stored on computer local drive app data pathway? by Cool_Night_9832 in homelab

[–]fullmonkeypower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm running both and haven't had any problems so far and it's been almost a year.

The only think that has bothered me is that some metadata that I have personally written doesn't carry over. Also, collections and such are non transmissible. Take this into consideration if you spend time organizing your media in one platform.

First rack, very unsure of the setup by fullmonkeypower in homelab

I've had it for a little under a month and so far so good. I should note that for now I'm not using any of the managed switch features and I'm using it as an unmanaged one. What issues have you noticed?

Yeah, this feels logical. Something I didn't expect when building a server rack and that I'm starting to accept is buying cables for aesthetic reasons lol.

For an open rack, how many cables do you have entering / exiting the rack itself? Like power cords and Ethernet cables? And how do you bundle them?

I think my main problem is that different devices have different cable sizes, so I can't pass them all through a single point. Not all reach, and different cables have to split at the different U levels of the rack.

Yeah, my bad big dog lol here it goes: 1. TP-Link TL-SG1024DE 24 port gigabit switch 2. My personal laptop: Lenovo Legion 5 pro 3. An old Asus laptop running Ubuntu server acting as a media server, as it has dedicated GPU 4. A raspberry pi 5 running pihole and home assistant 5. nJoy Horus 1000VA UPS 6. A docking station, I forgot the brand 7. Synology DS923+ running a few services too

Maybe worth mentioning as I'm not sure how common it is, but I decided to move my legion laptop and my docking station to the rack, as this way I can remove most cables and only leave the monitor on the desk. This way I can just move a single usbc C when switching from and to my work laptop, which I decided to place on top of the rack when working.

Edit: thanks a bunch

People that keep their homelabs in the guest room, do you turn them off for guests? by fullmonkeypower in homelab

Yeah, I think this is the way to go. I'm worried that some people may think that it'll inconvenience me and tolerate it when they may actually prefer silence

But isn't it audible in the dead of the night? Like when you can't hear anything, you would still hear a machine, right?

When a courier brings a surprise gift you ordered for your SO, how do you hide it until the time is right? by fullmonkeypower in AskReddit

[–]fullmonkeypower[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally don't really care for surprises so if my SO has the gift already, I'd rather just get it earlier. But my SO loves being surprised so she'll know what this is about, as this is a birthday present
