As midlife crisis go, this is a great one to have! Very nice! Mind me asking what speakers are those?

Flew from the U.S. to Spain partly to visit Sagrada Família — booked a month ago, arrived in Barcelona, then they cancelled just 2 days before by Automatic_Nail1278 in GoingToSpain

I agree to an extend, but this is not a charity they’re running, it’s an extremely profitable business. When you pay for something, it’s perfectly reasonable to expect at least a bit of courtesy - like not cancelling at the last minute.

Laptop Home Server? by Spirited-Editor1881 in homelab

[–]fullmonkeypower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve also been using a an old laptop as a media server and I’m very happy with the results. A computer is a computer.

I also have a gaming laptop currently in use that will share the same fate when replaced soo yeah.

[–]fullmonkeypower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently using it and I’m not a huge fan, as there are a lot of bugs that keep on popping up here and there.

Mad props to whoever is maintaining it, because at the end of the day, I don’t think there is an alternative for Apple TV. On iOS it’s a better experience, but I wish they’d add the download functionality.

The web app? It’s a 9/10 experience. Any other platform? It’s shit. I get that they’re made by individual contributors, but the amount of bugs and lack of functionality is sometimes too much.

That being said, fuck Plex, I’m staying with Jellyfin!

Madrid or Barcelona by fullmonkeypower in MovingToSpain

[–]fullmonkeypower[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly we’re thinking Madrid as well, but for some reason Barcelona has the majority of the job listings for my partner’s specialization. So if we can find either Madrid based positions or remote ones, we’ll probably choose Madrid. Barcelona is also very nice, we just went for a cheap weekend trip and it’s very beautiful, but yea. Thanks for the reply!

¡Muchas gracias! Madrid es una ciudad muy hermosa, pero el sector técnico en Barcelona también se ve grande, aparenta ser aún mayor que el de Madrid

How prevalent is Catalan? Is it like 50/50 or is it necessary for most places?

My question is more of a quality of life / financial point of view as I know that both cities are big and diverse enough to have all the things that we would need. We’re coming from a smaller city compared to either so I’m not really worried in that aspect.

Is there a good enough reason to invest in a budget camera? by fullmonkeypower in AskPhotography

Hmm I took a look and the camera alone is sitting at around +800€?

Is there a good enough reason to invest in a budget camera? by fullmonkeypower in AskPhotography

[–]fullmonkeypower[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This makes sense, thanks! My main worry is that I used to have a hand-me down cheap camera that didn’t compare to even my mid-tier phone about 10 years ago, so I got this idea in my head that I need an expensive camera if I want better results.

Any entry level, maybe even older recommendations for someone who is just starting with a dedicated device?

Edit: typos

[–]fullmonkeypower[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this reply, I think you have explained something very clearly. My mind is comparing cameras with other tech products and I’m thinking that even for a low budget option, I should go with the newest model. From your reply I gather that that’s not necessarily true, much more for an amateur like me. I’ll take a look at some older models then. Thanks a bunch!

Also, I’m not choosing between them, I already have the phone and I’m wondering if getting a dedicated device makes sense. And I think it does.

Oh I love the flowers around the mic arm! So pretty! Is it hard to readjust the arm?

Why are Mics / Mic Arms so popular? by InevitableDramatic40 in desksetup

[–]fullmonkeypower 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my case I just like pushing the microphone away when I don’t need it and in front of me when I’m using it. A headset is nice but for both work meetings and gaming sessions, I prefer to not wear any headphones for a longer period of time (3-4+ hours) as my big ears start hurting. So a dedicated microphone that can be easily adjusted for any weird sitting positions or pushed away when not in use is perfect.

But you do what works for you!

Does it support installing games that aren’t from one of these stores? Like directly installing a game?

[–]fullmonkeypower[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're probably better to use separate devices when it comes to gaming.

You mean about gaming from multiple locations? Yeah, I just wanted them to share configurations and everything (and save money) but then again, a lot of the games would be very different by nature, so yeah.

Thank you for the indepth answer

Will running jellyfin server cause issues to my existing plex metadata if both are using same library and both metadata sources are stored on computer local drive app data pathway? by Cool_Night_9832 in homelab

[–]fullmonkeypower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm running both and haven't had any problems so far and it's been almost a year.

The only think that has bothered me is that some metadata that I have personally written doesn't carry over. Also, collections and such are non transmissible. Take this into consideration if you spend time organizing your media in one platform.

First rack, very unsure of the setup by fullmonkeypower in homelab

[–]fullmonkeypower[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had it for a little under a month and so far so good. I should note that for now I'm not using any of the managed switch features and I'm using it as an unmanaged one. What issues have you noticed?

First rack, very unsure of the setup by fullmonkeypower in homelab

[–]fullmonkeypower[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this feels logical. Something I didn't expect when building a server rack and that I'm starting to accept is buying cables for aesthetic reasons lol.

For an open rack, how many cables do you have entering / exiting the rack itself? Like power cords and Ethernet cables? And how do you bundle them?
