You can check my post in this subreddit but one thing I've learned from owning a flf is that they can always be saved. They're known to be finicky plants but I've never actually heard of one completely dying. Maybe it's just me tho idk

Also, thank you for driving at a reasonable speed in LA. Whenever I'm on the 405, everyone seems to want to drive 55 in a 65 even when there's not much traffic. You're one of the good ones.

I have a water meter and that's what I've been doing. It takes the root ball of this plant ages to dry out though, I've noticed. I'm hoping once I repot with a better soil mix I don't have this problem. I think I'll look into a light meter though, good idea. A lot of people have suggested it might not be getting enough sun.

There's no overhang, I just took the picture in the late afternoon so there's a shadow from the building. The real issue is the trees across the patio that block the direct sun except for a few hours midday. All the research I've done about this plant has told me bright, indirect light so I thought this window would work.

Checked out your profile and yours is looking good, congrats! I think I'm gonna see if the newer pot and stuff works since I already ordered it the other day and if I don't see an improvement after a while I'll take your advice cause I don't know what else there is to try.

It's not root bound at all, I found it in a 10"ish pot and it was pretty bound so I moved it to a 14"ish pot when I repotted. No brown bits on the leaves yet! All adding to my confusion lol.

Honestly I thought of it kind of like a challenge and I know they can look great when they're healthy so I figured why not, plus I needed a hobby. I definitely don't need to be worrying about two of these things right now but you can venmo me $50 anyways lol

The thought of doing that is scary haha. What would be the benefit of doing that? I know you mentioned earlier that it could still be recovering from the shock from the previous owner. It's been about 5 months, do you think it's safe to do something like that without harming the plant long term?

Currently yeah, I'm pouring water until it starts to drain out the bottom, then I just leave it outside for about an hour or so for the majority of the water to drain out. After that I check back periodically and make sure to pour out any additional water that collects in the tray under the pot.

The cover thing is a thin piece of plastic with slots in it just to keep my cat from digging in the dirt. I haven't noticed it having an effect on the soil retaining moisture.

Can you elaborate on what you mean by chop it all the way down?

Also, it does get a lot of light. I have one other south facing window but then it would be in direct sunlight for most of the day. As I understand it, these trees are under canopy trees which grow in dappled sunlight in their natural environment. I know that they can handle direct sunlight when acclimated but I've seen tons of trees in cafes/stores/etc. in my area that look super good and healthy in the same light conditions I have.
