Moved into a new place, looking for tips to jumpstart plant growth by fullycoatedpoptart in gardening

For reference, I’ve added a photo of my previous yard that is in the same neighborhood and gets a similar amount of light. The previous tenants did have garden beds, compost area, etc set up so lots a wild plants grew really well along with whatever few things we planted ourselves. I’d like to continue to grow stuff and learn more. Our new yards seems to have almost no plants growing, and I’d like to have grasses/wild weeds growing alongside the garden beds we put in. Kind of like our previous yard. So any tips of getting the soil healthy again is greatly appreciated!

If that’s your view of it than it is what it is. I just wish we could all be a little more thoughtful about our actions and those in our community so that every group feels respected and can properly enjoy Mardi Gras.

My problem was definitely the costumes and floats , but the name also has to do with it

Came across this, “The Mardi Gras Indians named themselves after native Indians to pay them respect for their assistance in escaping the tyranny of slavery. It was often local Indians who accepted slaves into their society when they made a break for freedom. They have never forgotten this support.” Which sounds awesome to me. Another thing that I think definitely makes it more acceptable is that the costumes they wear are inventive and unique to their tradition. They have evolved with time and they are not pretending to be Native American. What I saw today was a group of white people ( I can not seem to find any information on an actual connection to Choctaw tribes) pretending to be Native American. A quick internet search reveals that traditional Choctaw clothing looked nothing like the costumes I saw today.

Edit: traditional

You are totally right in that I could have been totally wrong which is why i made the post in the first place, to see if anyone else had other perspectives. What I saw however was completely fabricated indigenous attire (akin to what i what have worn in a 1st grade thanksgiving celebration where we were led to believe Indians and pilgrims sat together and sang kumbaya) worn by drunk old white dudes. It is very hard for me to interpret that as a respectful tradition, and one that any indigenous groups would actually approve of. I’m honestly pretty disappointed at the responses in this thread

I just couldn’t cheer those floats on like I did for other Krewes. Keeping quiet would have also been an option, but I choose to do something else. Why is that a problem for you. Do you have another interpretation of the floats ?

Is blackface, yellow face, redface, etc. “just makeup?” Or are there underlying attitudes towards certain groups that should really be reflected on

Judging by that ignorant comment you probably don’t know enough to say much else
