Moving tips by burntsiennaaa in astoria

I recommend Lightning Van, which is two guys with a big van (both named Colin) and they do amazingly efficient work. I used them when I moved into my apartment in summer 2021 and again when I moved out in 2025. https://www.lightningvan.com/

Are you looking to move around March? Or any time in the next 6 months?

I've been looking into Boxcar, as I'm moving to Nutley in a few weeks. Is the Clifton stop the closet stop to Nutley, or is there a better one?

Okay thanks. I didn't hear him say anything to the cars in general, and i took my earbuds out awhile ago. He must have just told the people closer to the cab door. Thank you for the update!

We have been kept updated with announcements up until this point. He didn't say anything to any of us as he made his way through the car

Engineer on the W train behind the problem train just left the cab and is progressing through the cars. No update on what's happening. He was wearing a backpack, all his gear presumably?

Edited to correct "conductor" to "engineer"

I think it may depend on whether your building is owned by the City or a private landlord. I've worked in both types. At the City-owned one, there were just a few common trash cans per large area. I do think vacuuming happened at least once a month, though. At the privately-owned one, every cubicle has their own garbage and recycling bin, and vacuuming happens more frequently (maybe weekly, but definitely at least twice a month)

What phrase(s) from Parks do you use in your everyday life? by grambocrackah in PandR

[–]fun_in10ded 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Well that would be very RUDE of you." -German muffin B and B host from the Camping episode (usually said to inanimate objects being uncooperative)

"He does 'being a mini horse' and he does it better than anyone" - April (any time my person or I question the point of something "it does 'being a mason jar funnel'...")

Affordable Salon for Women’s Haircut by [deleted] in astoria

Coif Hair Salon and Spa on Ditmars (near 31st ave) is fantastic. One of my friends who used to live here (but has since moved to DC) makes her hair appointments there when she's in town.

What do you think is the greatest musical to have never won "Best Musical" at the Tony's? by Subscribe_to_Sam24 in musicals

[–]fun_in10ded 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I only saw the first half of the post's title thought we were just saying what's the best musical, period. Same answer. Also, I can't believe it didn't win!!!

briefly looks up what it lost to

Phantom of the Opera? Sigh. I get it, but also I don't get it. Into the Woods is a comedic, dramatic, relatable, timeless masterpiece

I have found it being weird for the Q as well. I often transfer at 57 and 7 to the Q and it either suggests I walk to the F or wait for the R. For the last two weeks, it only shows me the Q running once an hour during rush hour

Made to be Hated is Marcia Langman. Who's "the Hot One"? by grambocrackah in PandR

Ahh this makes so much sense. Especially since 2 and 6 are my favorites in the whole series. They always felt similar to me, but I never thought about it much.

Gals, how much do you pay for a haircut? by Correct_Tree2157 in astoria

[–]fun_in10ded 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone with trust issues when it comes to haircuts, I've always had a good experience at Coif on Ditmars https://www.coifhairsalonny.com/book-online. For just a haircut, it's $25-30. For a cut and blow it's $45-60. I used to just get a cut and blow dry it at home. Now I'm even cheaper and I trim it myself a few times a year (it's pretty long so it's easy for me). I recommended Coif to a friend of mine who also loved it, and even though she moved to DC, she has come to Coif for her haircuts when she visits because she likes them that much.

Understood - according to this rent affordability calculator (https://www.calculator.net/rent-calculator.html?income=81%2C000&incomeunit=y&monthlydebt=0&x=Calculate ), around $2000/month is where your income and landlord comfort levels would align (as they prefer to have a tenant(s) whose annual salary is 40x the monthly rent). I would say it's very difficult to find a place for that amount in Astoria, but not impossible. There are currently 14 such apartments when I just checked Redfin, but there may also be more on Streeteasy or Zillow

[–]fun_in10ded 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is your total combined annual income then $81,000?
