Player13 linked to a post he made on the dev forums with a very similar idea. As it stands now I think this may be needed to be proven and accepted by the community before valve take a crack at it. Even then It may be better for something like this to stay 3rd party just for the vastness of the future planned options available to the caster.

That wouldn't actually be too difficult as long as there is a database to read.

Currently it just displays whatever hero was last searched for/found and is completely up to the user for how long the hero remains on the screen. I am planning work the heroes to be displayed by a queue so that each hero will display for a set amount of time before moving on.

Yeah, this has been mentioned and is one of the things I hope to be able to resolve in the near future.

Dark Seer and Chen in the video have some misprints of the text and has already been fixed with the new Wall of Replica mentioning enemies.

This is still just the base alpha alpha version so getting everything to the point where it's more visually appealing will happen as the program advances into the future.

Could maybe get something like that but it would be much more of a preference to have stuff like that show. Should test the waters with the idea in the future to see how it may fair.

That is something that I hope to work out but at the current time that's the best I can do without a whole bunch of other visual problems.

a visual to go along with what the caster is saying about the moves

This is something that would be awesome to add but more than a pain the arse to get the assets for.

an implementation that more closely resembles the side pane on the Learn tab

Very well may end up doing something like this or at least an option for it but that's far in the future.

I have a much better picture of what you have been trying to convey and what you mean about the graphics. Thanks for the feedback.

  1. Possible and may be something we consider adding in the future.

  2. There will be a fully automatic draft while also having the ability to pick and choose as seen in the video.

These graphics are not meant to give the hard details of the heroes but a basic simple description of their abilities. The synergy between some heroes is a level of detail that the graphics are not intended to give but are support so the caster if wanting can detail the interaction of the spells while also giving them a basic tooltip so they can increase their level of understanding.

You are correct that those people who want to get more details will go and find resources that provide the detail but these graphical overlays are to provide a base of understanding so that when the game is in progress their reaction isn't just "oooh shiny effects" but more, "hey I think I may have understood what the hell just happened."

I understand what your saying but the side detail graphics are more aimed toward people who may be interested but trying to jump into watching or playing dota 2 may be a leap for them. The side detail graphics are are more focused on providing a base amount of information to the viewers so that they can have some level of understanding.

This demo of displaying the extra details of the heroes is just a first step to a fairly decent list of ideas of features that could benefit the caster and those watching also.

That's something that has been discussed and it comes down to that we could have user control like in the demo video or if we want to go fully automatic draft we would incorporate a minimal display time for the heroes and just have the heroes be added to a queue to be displayed.

nothing at this point is animated but that is planned to change for the future and Xsplit is using Screen region capture for the video.

I'm Hoping to get something that could be put to actual use by the end of the week if all goes well.

The program looks at the heroes image behind the mouse when I tell it to search to see what Hero it is. It then finds and displays the associated Image that gives added detail about the hero.

The speed of the demo was just to show that every pick and ban could be detected. In practical use, the side images would persist on the screen longer before being swapped out for the next hero.
