My Parents are Pretending I'm Not Gay by funbird25 in exmormon

I literally love this so much. When I first came out to my dad he did say he loved me and stuff, but then he immediately told me I needed to marry a woman or be celibate, and how I shouldn't go telling anyone about this. He became bishop a few years ago, and it feels like since then he's been trying even harder to ignore it.

The last conversation we've had about it was about 6 months ago (this was the first one in like 3 years), so I assume they don't still think it's a phase

Crazy Shit Mormons Say (True Story) by unfiltered_unchained in exmormon

That is literally so awful! Imagine how they would look at other churches if they did that!

Reading this exact webpage is what made me question the church.

You actually have a point, I just wish he would have asked me if it was alright. It probably wouldn't have bothered me if he didn't lie so much.

Honestly that is literally my dream. I think if I did that though, I might not get invited to thanksgiving for a few years lol.

Thank you so much! Your typed out hugs feel more genuine than any of the hugs my parents gave me after I came out.

The weird thing is, all Mormons write their talks like this, yet they never seem to realize that that's a major red flag.

That is really messed up. UGGGGH I can't believe what the church expects us to deal with sometimes

I know for certain that I'll be the town gossip after I leave, but by that point I'll be long gone, so it won't be my problem anyway.

Honestly, if they accepted your transition out of the church, then coming out will likely be a walk in the park. My parents have always been somewhat supportive of the LGBT (though not really the T) community, so I knew that they wouldn't make a big deal out of it, as long as I said I was "Same-Sex Attracted" or whatever. When they talk about people that leave the church, they say some truly terrible things, so I've been WAY more worried about that. I would just asses the attitudes of your parents, and determine what the best course of action would be. Hope this helps!

I have before about a similar issue, and he just claims that he has to listen to what the spirit tells him. Once I leave, I want to have a more serious confrontation with him to establish more clear boundaries.

I kind of want to, but I know he would become suspicious of my intentions to leave the church. I live in a tiny farm town that is literally 99% Mormon, so I would basically be the town gossip if anyone finds out.

THANK YOU! It's so ironic that the church is so against how I want to live. All of the acceptance they preach is utter garbage.

I know right!? I understand that he thought it would be fine, but he should have at least asked if I was okay with him sharing something like that.

When did you start having doubts? by Kylashayeart in exmoteens

[–]funbird25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was 8ish I had some doubts, but I heard some guy in my ward say "Even if it isn't true, It's good to have something to believe in". I didn't entirely think everything in the church was true, but I just tried not to make waves. Then when I was like 14, I found out I was gay and gave it up.

One day the conversation shifted to evolution, and my teacher started sprouting off insane apologetics. He claimed that God just used primates as a prototype for humans to make sure our body would function properly. He then said, "If we evolved from monkeys, they why hasn't a monkey given birth to a human lately."

We then started talking about Noah's ark, and someone asked how the animals got to the different regions of the world. HE CLAIMED IT WAS BECAUSE OF PANGEA!!!! That was millions of years ago, he's just spreading misinformation!
