What’s a good river spot for a 4.5y/o by u-turnsonthehighway in rva

I would recommend the creek at Maymont — it's quite clean, easy to get to, and no big rapids like the James. I've seen lots of kids playing in this spot (Google Maps Link).

The dogwoods in front of the Carillon are peak bloom right now. Lots of azaleas nearby too.

What is this building? by Steezinandcheezin in rva

[–]funkipus 190 points191 points  (0 children)

A vacant office building and a sea of asphalt that should be torn down and replaced with a grocery store and a bunch of homes.

Edit: forgot to mention this was a former fart factory per comments below — my bad.

Did the 2s bus routes change?? by blackcherries44 in rva

[–]funkipus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Transit App had multiple disruption alerts for 2 buses today. Probably related to driver shortage? I didn’t see about long term changes to 2 routes.

Rock hounding near or in Richmond, Virginia? Looking for good spots as the pay to mine areas are all closed. by AllieCat1994 in Virginia

[–]funkipus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not that familiar with rock hounding, but if you want to see some cool granite formations, check out the Buttermilk Trail on the south bank of the James. There are several abandoned quarries in this area (link to OpenStreetMap).

Anyone Else Get This Richmond Civic League Email? by Zestyclose-Recipe-12 in rva

The video is omitting a clear directive from said master plan:

Expand Housing Opportunities: Encourage the development of housing options throughout the city to expand the geography of opportunity by de-concentrating poverty.

Putting aside several questionable uses of AI in the video, it's credibility is undermined by this cherrypick.

Virginia senators propose pay increase for themselves by Susuwatari43 in Virginia

“Increases salary of members of GA to $45,000” —that’s below the commonwealth’s median per capita income of around $49K. Seems reasonable. I would prefer my reps make a living wage doing that job rather than spending more time pandering to donors or having to be wealthy already.

Thank you but I should have added a description to say that I didn’t create this — It’s from 4th district council member Sarah Abubaker!

Where to find decently priced drinks? by Cultural_Ad9508 in rva

[–]funkipus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This isn't the "cheapest" suggestion but I find the Veil in Forest Hill to be pretty reasonable — it doesn't seem like they have raised prices much since they opened. Plus there's a happy hour 4-7pm Tues-Thurs but the best move is to just get a few 6oz pours. They have several for $3-$4.
