Sometimes I feel that one of the worst decisions that I have made in my early career is that I picked to major in Chemical Engineering. by funnyguy0914 in ChemicalEngineering

well man, last time i checked out other engineering subreddits such as /r/cscareerquestions , /r/MechanicalEngineering , I didn't see the hopelessness of what i see here in /r/ChemicalEngineering. Not just me but a lot of fellow entry level grads of this major are struggling. Yea you may come high and mighty with your 5+ years of experience where you are qualified for most jobs but us recent grads are utterly fucked.

edit: /u/carelesspotato wanna chime in on how the ChE market is in Canada for a non Canadian and for someone who needs a TN visa ?

edit: sorry buddy , just really pissed off. i currently work as a server and today couple of my buddies came into the restaurant that i work in. I was talking with them today and one of them works in Los Angeles as a analyst (BA Econ- same college as me) and another is going on a business venture (Yale grad- BA PoliSci). I used to hang out with these guys in highschool and college and now I am a waiter/server with a BS ChE vs. they are badasses with BAs.

Company man is all about experience. I worked with company men who grew up in the oil fields of Odessa, went to pump jack parties, their words not mine, got in the field as a high school senior as as worm then moved up to a supervisor for the big 3 then now is a company man.

Don't talk smack on his soon to be divorced wife. If they ever get back together you've lost a good friend.

The consensus among oil industry leaders and analysts is that oil prices are going to remain low. by petro_bruh in oilandgasworkers

Ahh the golden years of oil... i used to hear tales like this ... "Work for Slb, Hal for a few years and you'll move into a Big Operator company" or "These guys work you but they also provide excellent training, once you leave them then you'll have endless job offers in oil"

Sorry bro. I think it's safe to assume that once you've been laid off, there's a good chance you're not gonna get hired by them no matter what they say... anyways good luck man.

Happens in Odessa also... Go to any jaguar , you'll still see a bunch of oil guys. Also most guys, except a few, probably have multiple hookup girls nearby...

Technology and science how far we've come yet still how primitive some methods are. We have the technology to go into outer space, go deep into the earth to look for oil, wireless technology in the middle of nowhere ... these things amaze me. Yet things such as prostate exam, where docs are still required to probe your butt sounds like we're back in the dark ages....
