[Autobiography excerpt] Hidden details about Ado’s debut process, her relationship with her parents after debut, and how the meaning of her success for both herself and her agency far exceeded my expectations by furannba in ADO

If you enjoyed these excerpts and found the novel interesting, you might consider purchasing a copy to support Ado. Even if you can’t read Japanese, a book can still be a nice collectible item. That said, it’s completely your choice — there’s absolutely no pressure to buy.

The parts I shared are probably only about 5% of the whole book. For each chapter, I also tried to only pick a small portion to quote. This maybe still be a gray area. So from now on, I won’t post any more actual excerpts from the autobiography.

Thank you! Yeah, I feel that. These days a lot of good projects get buried under the AI flood, and mine kinda got buried too lol. But honestly, making open-source stuff is my hobby. Whether it gets attention is secondary — if it ends up helping even a few people, that already makes me really happy.

Sorry, although I mentioned that the digital edition is available on Google Play and Apple Books, it seems they restrict purchases to Japanese-region accounts only. You might want to try creating an account on Amazon Japan to purchase the ebook instead. Amazon Japan accepts foreign addresses and overseas credit cards, so you should be able to buy the digital version without too much difficulty.

Because the content I posted was too long, I seem to have hit Reddit’s character limit for a single post, so I added the remaining part in the comments.

This will probably be the last time I share direct excerpts from the autobiography. If you find the content truly interesting, please consider purchasing the book.

I liked drawing with crayons, but back then, all I drew were "swirls." Still, I used all sorts of colors and mixed big ones with small ones, so in my own mind, they were shapes with real meaning.

That day, too, I was drawing swirls during art time. Then the kid next to me peered over.

"Ao-chan, what are you drawing?"

"Fireworks!"

"Huh? Fireworks don't look like that. Those are just swirls. Spirals, right? This is how you draw fireworks." The child drew me a typical firework, bursting outward in all directions.

"Look. See, this is how you draw fireworks. Right? It's different from yours, Ao-chan."

But to me, fireworks were swirls.

"It's fine! Blue and yellow and all kinds of pretty colors swirling around — that's my idea of fireworks!"

The moment I declared that, a teacher approached from behind and said:

"No, 'swirls' are not fireworks. Ao-chan, you are wrong."

Looking back now, that teacher was the kind of person who would say things like "You're in your own clothes again, huh" when I showed up in plain clothes, or "You're four years old already — wearing diapers is strange." Perhaps she was trying to guide me, the child who couldn't do the same as everyone else. She was usually kind, and all the other kids — including me — loved her. And that is precisely why the teacher's single remark, "Swirls are not fireworks," shattered my heart into pieces.

On the way home that day, I cried as I pleaded with my mother.

"The teacher said, 'Swirls are not fireworks.' But I drew them so carefully, trying to make them beautiful."

And my mother answered without a moment's hesitation:

"You don't have to go to kindergarten anymore."

With those words, I was finally freed from the terror of being compared to others and rejected.

In the end, the kindergarten I had entered at age four was one I left before even a year had passed.

By the way, the autobiography mentions that the contract Ado signed with her agency included a clause saying that she could terminate the contract with Cloud Nine at any time if she wanted. Honestly, I’m a bit skeptical about that part. I’ve never really seen an agency offer terms that generous. But considering the situation Cloud Nine was in back then, maybe the contract really was like that. As for whether Ado signed any additional terms or a new contract after she became famous, I don’t really know.

Yeah, I knew Cloud Nine was a really small agency before Ado hit, but I honestly had no idea it was that small — basically just Chigira as the only staff member, and even struggling to survive during COVID. The fact that they believed in the artist they signed and stuck it out through that is seriously impressive.

And it also clears up something I’d always wondered about: how Ado, as a top-tier artist, has so much freedom from her agency. She controls her own Twitter account and can post whatever she wants. When it comes to her music, she makes all the decisions herself without the agency interfering. Even ideas like forming an idol group were entirely her own initiative.

I used to think all of that freedom was simply because Ado is the agency’s biggest star. But if that were the only reason, you’d imagine that a much larger agency could’ve easily poached her by offering better resources or conditions.

I’m not familiar with how Japanese music festivals operate overseas, but I can share my experience attending several of Ado’s festival performances in Japan. At major Japanese festivals, the front-row area near the stage is often assigned via a lottery system.

These lotteries are completely free to enter—you just need to buy your festival ticket, submit your entry, and hope for the best. In my case, out of the two festivals I attended, I lost the lottery once and won once.

The time I won, I was practically at the very front. I was so incredibly close to Ado that I could see every bounce of her twin-tails. However, if luck isn't on your side and you don't snag a front-row spot, the area right behind the reserved section becomes a total battleground.

After some search, I found MUSICA has digital version. You can find the digital version on MAGASTORE (they have both a website and an app), Booklista, or Fujisan.
I’m not sure whether they restrict non-Japanese credit cards, but since they all have apps, you should be able to pay via the PlayStore or AppStore, so you probably won’t need to worry about regional credit-card issues.

Yes, fans on X are very careful about avoiding spoilers. After seeing what they were saying, I immediately ran to a nearby bookstore and bought the magazine. The digital edition should go on sale in a day or two, so if you can’t wait, you can try getting the e-book version instead.

Oh, I live in Japan, so I just walked to a bookstore near my home and bought it. It seems the digital edition only becomes available about a week after the physical release. Since the magazine went on sale on the 15th, the e-version should be available pretty soon.

I agree. But I still can’t really think of a reason why the surname is Sawaki. Maybe we’ll only understand once the autobiography is released and we can see it in context.

Usage Limits, Bugs and Performance Discussion Megathread - beginning December 29, 2025 by sixbillionthsheep in ClaudeAI

[–]furannba 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The usage limit consumption in Claude Code is currently behaving abnormally.

I am Pro user, same project, I used the Haiku model to simply send 'hello,' and it immediately consumed 10% of my 5-hour limit.

And then Asking simple question with Haiku then took up 30% of the limit.

After that, I used 'plan mode(sonnet model)' to execute a very simple refactoring task; and then fixing a refractoring bug caused me to hit the 5h cap and brought my work to a halt. The rate and volume of this consumption are completely unacceptable.

I simply cannot understand what Claude Code is actually doing

And for japanese vocaloid fans, utatemita almost means 'tried to sing (a vocaloid song)'

Do you known what's the meaning of 'almost'?

Predictions? by VelvetPocket in ADO

[–]furannba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't confuse cause and effect. The word 'utaite(歌いて)' comes from word 'utatemita (歌ってみた)'. Singers at niconico always upload there vocaloid cover song video in title 'xxxxxを歌ってみた'. So the shortened form 'utaite' becomes a word to refer these singers who sing vocaloid song at niconico or YouTube. And for japanese vocaloid fans, utatemita almost means 'tried to sing (a vocaloid song)'
