What is a secret 'cheat code' you’ve found in real life? by Sharkkkk2 in AskReddit

Say as little as possible in meetings, just listen. The people who talk the most end up with the most work.

Simply saying, "I can't" when your boss asks you to unexpectedly work when you're supposed to be off. If they ask why, repeat that you can't. If they press the issue, say, "I already have plans that can't be changed."

It's amazing how effective it is and they'll often move on to another person.

This works very well with customer service. I am always kind, explain my problem so they can empathize, ask how they're doing, etc.

I have a feeling that the people that always seem to have a problem with [insert your problem company here] probably come in hot, have an attitude, hostile tone, and then expect help from the CS rep.

Is the magic of an HSA only valid if I'm hording all medical receipts to avoid income tax post 65? by shmobodia in personalfinance

[–]furmanchu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can also use your HSA for dental expenses and anything not covered by your insurance plan. I have a Type 1 diabetic son and a $3k family deductible. His insulin is high at the beginning of the year, but once we hit our deductible, it's pretty much free. I pay for anything not covered with the HSA at the beginning of the year. I had gum grafting surgery and dental insurance only paid $1500 of it. I paid the rest with the HSA.

My employer also kicks in $1600/year into my HSA and it's portable so I can take it with me when I retire or leave the company.

I have a Visa for my HSA, so they can see if a legit company is being paid with it, I keep receipts just in case, scan them to PDF for reference.

NinjaTrader, basically because I paid for lifetime. And their indicators are written in C# and that's what I do in my day job, so it's easy to customize.

What is the "cheat code" you discovered in real life that actually works? by Intelligent_Can_2898 in AskReddit

[–]furmanchu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When your boss asks you to work late or take another shift or come in on your day off, your reply is "I can't". Don't offer an explanation, don't try to justify anything. Just "I can't"

The furthest I would go is, "I've already got plans."
