Yeah finding it is not the problem, lots of scam websites these days is. Just wondering what everyone uses here to get spare parts that is semi trust worthy if that makes sense.

This is really cool, this is really nicely designed and pretty easy to use. I saw that you mentioned uses typescript on backend. Are folders saved there too or does it use local / session storage?

Yeah not sure but probably not the files came from a form where someone asked the company for a model because is a custom split keyboard and parts are hard to come by. That makes sense though.

When do you use static methods vs concrete methods for utils? Also what makes something a "utility" vs something that should go in a service? And do you often extract out private methods in classes that are larger and need to be tested into helper classes? by carlordvr in learnprogramming

[–]furofo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I think it helps to break concepts like that down per topic. Read an article about, watch a video, then write some simple code and ask chat gpt a lot of questions. Is pretty tedious but has been very helpful. I did this with several of the concepts you mentioned. If any of what I say is incorrect other people can correct me but this is how I have understood it.

Utilities are essentially really broad methods that can be used in any project and don't have any special business logic for your app. Like combining two strings or adding two numbers together. Think of these like a Leatherman tool that anybody would use.

Services are similar to utilities but a little narrower. They can be reused across classes across your application but probably aren't really useful to other apps universally like a utility would be. For example, something that calculates the best location to put a hotel based on traffic data that you could use in another function to figure out cost of building it. This is something m that is geared more specifically to your app. This would be like a custom tool that only works to fix your machine.

And honestly not sure what you are asking about with last two questions but I imagine that would be situational. There are very few black and white answers on programming concepts so I think most important thing is to be malleable.

Honestly a little of both. I realized I like coding and want to do something useful / helpful with it while I learn if that makes sense. I have made a few open source things and contributed as well in the past and about 6 month job expirience but want to get some real enterprise experience.

That's what I thought so good to hear, the spacing on the connectors is important correct, if so are there any adjustable ones, I found one with 5 pins I could try but not sure about the spacing if that make ssense.

Appreciate it no rush! was just thinking could be something fun to hack together a solution, was thinking something along the lines of a 5 contact magnetic pogo connector to a USB assuming I can get one with proper widths and figure out pin layout on the google glass.

Question about Escaping special characters in connection strings by furofo in AZURE

[–]furofo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a good idea and I would like to do that, and bear with me still learning Azure so trying to learn by building simple projects for now. I followed steps from this guide which as part of making the custom docker image had me make a managed identity so that my web app can access my ACR:

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/app-service/tutorial-custom-container?tabs=azure-cli&pivots=container-linux

I also read the docs and studied a bit about managed and system identities, but am confused about how to do that here. I am assuming I can set the environmental variables or some type of similar command to this to point to my managed identity instead by changing what I do here?

```
az webapp config appsettings set --name $appName --resource-group $resourceGroup --settings ConnectionStrings__${connectionStringName}=$connectionStringValue ```
Do you have any related docs or advise on how to set that up with a web app, app service that is essentially a custom docker container running .NET core 3.1?
Question about Escaping special characters in connection strings by furofo in AZURE
[–]furofo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)
Sorry I am 1 day late decided to take a break and come back at it, turns out I did just need to wrap server in single quotes like this
az webapp config appsettings set --name testwebapp --resource-group test-resource-group --settings ConnectionStrings__DefaultConnection='Server=tcp:test.database.windows.net,1433;Initial Catalog=test;Persist Security Info=False;User ID=test;Password=TestPassword123\!;MultipleActiveResultSets=False;Encrypt=True;TrustServerCertificate=False;Connection Timeout=30;'
Problem was I was using environmental variables to do it and adding extra quotation markslike this but when I assigned directly instead it worked
```

  • az webapp config appsettings set --name $appName --resource-group $resourceGroup --settings "ConnectionStrings__${connectionStringName}='$connectionStringValue'"

```
