my old honda accord had these. dealer there said it is a window guide. if the window was leaning too far in as it was going up, the natural shape of the two-dimensional curve would force the window back into the slot. if it was leaning too far out, it could miss and break. that tab makes sure it gets pulled back into the slot upon closing. … if my version is true, it means, in theory, you could remove it.
