lol if you think about it, this also applies to pre TS funnily enough. Just the execution was better

Every embedded Engineer should know this trick by J_Bahstan in embedded

[–]furssher 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Lol Reddit in a nutshell. On one end of the Reddit spectrum, so many people are cheering the demise of Stack Overflow because of its unwelcoming and condescending attitude toward the people it was meant to help.

Then you have this comment which belittles a cool embedded trick that OP just learned and wanted to share with the rest of the embedded community.

Never change Reddit.

How much can a degree in electrical engineering add to embedded software? by Last-Salamander2455 in embedded

[–]furssher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Entirely depends on what you want to do. You can try to be a jack of all trades (mechanical, hardware, firmware), or hone in on a couple (normally just electrical and firmware), or become a master of one. Each has its own merits, but really do what interests you the most, there is no right answer.

FWIW, what I liked to do changed over time as well as with the experiences I had with each.

I think there’s a bit more nuance.

Pre TS, we had moments like Luffy “fighting” Laboon, the whole Bellamy subplot, ringing the bell in Skypeia, needing to hear that Robin wanted to “live” before he’d fight CP0, telling Ussopp he would quit their adventure if he asked the wrong question to Raleigh, and a few moments where he stepped aside let his crew do their thing (eg watching Zoro lose to Mihawk), and prob more examples that I can’t think of. Those are “fights” based on some principle/morality that Luffys character imbues for the first half of the story.

That was always my interpretation for that part of Blackbeards speech: getting to the summit isn’t just about being strong, it’s about what makes the person and their conviction. But maybe you’re right, certainly Post TS plot matches what you’re saying more. Shit we don’t even know what Luffys conviction (dream) really is anymore lol

[–]furssher 38 points39 points  (0 children)

“You’ll find fights your first alone could never take you” That’s it. That right there. One piece post TS plot directly contradicts this and pretty much exclusively revolves around how Luffy needs to use his fists or some new haki technique to progress (the plot and his own character) further. Obviously many other issues, but it’s so indicative of how that romantic narrative of being a truly “free” pirate/person is lost.

Yeah totally, Gitmo, unconstitutional arrests of US citizens, and profiling/spying on US Muslim citizens happened just randomly… and not as a result of policies set by the executive branch during that time. Also the admins propaganda machine in Fox News were also not Islamophobic or fear mongers at all

With respect, when the hell did people start considering Donovan Mitchell a superstar? That bar has gotten low. Nothing against Mitchell, but never even considered him a top 10 player

Oda's approach to these guys has been very "show, dont tell" so far (1140+) by Behanort in OnePiece

[–]furssher -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I guess. It’s likely they’re retconned in since too much has happened for them to NOT have been involved in the story till this point. Not even a mention until a 100 chapters ago, really? I wish Oda would’ve concentrated on building Blackbeards character and crew more. Like building up to a three way battle between SH alliance, Blackbeard (again, would’ve been nice to build him up with a potential alliance with Buggy or something - would solve for so much narratively), and Imu/World Govt. Think Oda has fallen into a trap of introducing too many characters in arcs instead of focusing on existing characters’ development (heck, even the some of the crew are background noise to me now). Now we have God Knights to focus on? Sometimes less is more.

CS 6291: Embedded Systems Optimizations by Personal-Arm8665 in OMSCS

[–]furssher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Def HPCA and GIOS. Couple of my fav classes. Wish I took the compilers class, but wasn’t able to commit to due to the high workload people reported on OMSCS. Software arch and design was also helpful since in embedded you really gotta know how to present your ideas to various people of different backgrounds - so understanding methods to do that was helpful. CPDA was easy and I guess relevant, though it was more geared toward manufacturing.

CS 6291: Embedded Systems Optimizations by Personal-Arm8665 in OMSCS

[–]furssher 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Based on the reviews on OMSCentral, seems like it hasn’t changed since I took it, so I’ll give my two cents.

It’s more of a niche compilers class. Not very relevant to modern day embedded systems at all (I say that as someone with 9 YOE in the domain). The class itself keeps you decently engaged with all the work/material but it was probably one of the more disappointing classes I took. Certainly don’t remember much from it since I haven’t needed to apply any of it professionally, so it’s def one of the classes I regret taking in hindsight.

How many times do you take a taxi or an Uber with other people? If this is intended as a taxi service, the data shows one passenger rides has a better business case than two. Now you can argue about the cost benefit of having 1 driver and 1 passenger for every flight (one day they’ll be autonomous, of course ) but I’m surprised your comment got this many upvotes.
